I don't think I have much to say about Razor yet. (Am feeling decidedly un-analytical right now.) I'm very curious to see how some information fits in to season four. This was my first time doing anything publicly fannish, though, so here's a bit about the experience.
I signed up for the six o'clock showing. Left work at four and arrived at the theater about half-an-hour later. Just inside the doors a man was sitting at a table with a BSG sign. He looked at me and said "I know why you're here." (Apparently I carry a nerd-vibe? Drats. I was wearing nice clothes and everything!) He checked my name off a list and drew a star on my right hand. (Apparently the Sci-Fi channel is too cheap to buy stamps and stamp pads.) Went further inside and found the line--probably about twenty-five people already there. We were waiting near the theater room entrance. Most of us sat on the floor, leaning against the wall. I had been a bit concerned about the wait and what I might say if I ended up chatting with others. I even made a list of rules.
Rose's self-imposed rules for passing as a "normal" fan nerd instead of a crazy fan nerd while standing in line to watch Razor...
-No talking about how much I love Leoben.
-No talking about writing fanfic.
-No talking about reading fanfic.
-No admitting that I even know what fanfic is.
-No use of the these terms: meta, nancy-boy cylon, OTP, canon, fanon, shipping, shipper.
It ended up not mattering at all. Those who weren't there in groups were texting or playing video games on their phones. Should've expected it, heh. I brought a book to read.
Most of the crowd was male, twenty-ish to forty-ish. To further stereotype them, they had many techno-devices, they were wearing shorts and sports sandals, and they clearly spend lots of time indoors. *g*
Around 5:30 they let us go in the theater. Too dark for me to read. I ate my pb&j that I'd smuggled in my purse (eating theater hotdogs sounded too scary), and an apple and cookies too. As we drew closer to starting time the theater was mostly full, but not completely. I could've arrived a lot later and still gotten a reasonably good seat. Oh well... live and learn.
A man seated two chairs away from me was chatting with his friend about orthodox versus unorthodox atheism, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster. (Why was I so concerned about coming across as weird here?!)
Shortly after six the lights were dimmed more and we got to watch some video game and tech product ads. Then the show finally started! It was fun watching with a crowd and hearing reactions to different characters and dialogue lines. (Biggest reaction was elicited by a use of the phrase "By your command." Hee!) About halfway through we got to watch more video game ads--still, a lot less ad time than if I were watching on TV.
It was announced that after the credits there would be a sneak peek at season four. Unfortunately it's the same sneak peek that's been posted on YouTube ("We're going the wrong way!"). So nothing new there.
Two excellent Razor recaps/reviews on LJ: this one by
