Glad you liked it! I need to read more positive reviews because I am struggling with my own reaction to it, and I want to feel positively about the book.
Interesting about Peeta, too—he was never my favorite character, and in fact I shipped Katniss/Gale before MJ, but I now feel the same way about him you do. I think he was the most engaging major character in Mockingjay, so I came away liking him even more than I used to. Also, you’re right that he had the most trying story arc (comparable to only Katniss, I guess). Somebody else pointed out how relatively lightly Gale got off. (his whole family alive, behind the scenes of most battles, little physical trauma, etc.)
I liked your analysis of Katniss as driven entirely by the personal, not by the big picture—this is completely true. I wish she’d had more of a personal interest in MJ, though. It’s OK for her to flounder with the big picture and not feel motivated to lead the revolution, as long as she’s got some more important motive driving her.
