First, a few thoughts on romantic suspense. I know I'm rather squeamish, but... )

This rant is loosely connected to my next favorite female character: Bridie Chance, from the novel The Capricorn Stone by Madeleine Brent. Bridie: totally a cool weirdo (also very mild spoilers for the book) )

Weird new discovery. Madeleine Brent was actually Peter O'Donnell. He created the comic book character Modesty Blaise. I had no idea until just now.

Read Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. Enjoyable as always. I like Death and his subterranean sense of humor.

Finished rereading Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card.

Deadlock by Iris Johansen. Had to skim lots. (See previous post for rant about mental nausea from contemporary romantic suspense novels*.) Put book in the recycling bin after I was done. Bleh. I've read other books by Johansen that I liked much more.

*To be fair to Johansen, apparently this novel is classified as "crime fiction." But the romance part was obvious from the beginning, so I'm not sure what the difference is, other than the gore level? Hm. Apparently I'll need to pay attention to this in the future.

Finally finished Eragon, by Christopher Paolini. brief thoughts )

I've started reading another Mma Ramotswe book, but it's on hold while I read Eldest.
