ITV / PBS production Unforgotten continues to be amazing. Excellent acting, good pacing, a solid mystery with enough potential leads to make it compelling. What I like best is the way it doesn't shy away from hard subjects like racism, difficulties in interracial romance, infidelity, violence... not that those things are the main focus, but they're important to the stories being told in both past and present.
Still watching The Dark Crystal. The second half of season one is stronger than the first half, at least so far. I did enjoy the first half, but things really do move along more as it goes. It's also still a breathtakingly gorgeous world done in mostly miniature. ( mild spoilers for 1.07 )
By the way, if you're really anti-spider in any form, maybe don't watch the show. We've already had two episodes with a fair number of (puppet) spiders, and I'm guessing more are coming.
Huh. I did NOT know that Nathalie Emmanuel voiced Deet. Cool!
Children of Blood and Bone is a very good debut novel by Tomi Adeyemi. I just looked her up; she's only 26 years old! Anyway, the story is set in Orisha--a land that reflects the west Africa of Adeyemi's parents, but with lots of magic and conflict. It's the first book in a planned trilogy. I'm very curious to see what direction she'll go for book two. (It comes out in December this year.)
The book rights for the entire story were purchased by Fox pre-publication. Majority shares for Fox were subsequently bought out by Disney, so the project is currently under the auspices of LucasFilm. Y'all know how I feel about LucasFilm right now, so... eep. Ah well. We'll always have the books?
