It was so busy at my parents' home in the lead-up to Christmas that I never posted any Christmas music. So in belated celebration:

I'm having trouble finding the performance of Betelehemu that was on YouTube a few years ago, but this is the same organization: Morehouse College Glee Club. The hymn is in the Yoruba language (Nigeria); here's a write-up about the origins of the song, at least as it's performed in the US.

Also, this children's choir has a beautiful version as well.

I have three brothers and one sister. Two of the brothers (and their spouses and children) were present, and my parents, for our big meal, which was on Christmas Eve this time for schedule reasons. So yesterday was mostly "play with the next generation" day. My nieces and I:
  • assembled and decorated a gingerbread house kit
    • with a certain amount of sampling, of course
  • jumped on the trampoline
    • which is a lot harder as I get older, and I’m sore today
  • took turns on the big tree swing
  • spun around on that swing to the point of dizziness (it’s actually on a chain between two trees, so there’s a wider range of movement possible than on a traditional swingset)

I also made the cranberry salad we've been making for twenty years or more; it's one of those jello salads that you hear about, a midwestern concoction with all kinds of fruit and dairy that gets called a salad. This one is tasty, though: jello is a minor ingredient, mostly there for the sugar and for making the final version prettier, with layers of the whipped cream and cream cheese alternating with layers of ground cranberries and other fruit (and jello).

I'm still visiting those relatives; I head back home on the weekend. We may watch the new Star Wars movie while I'm still here. In lieu of my review, here's a review of Cats that almost had me crying from laughter. (I have no intention of seeing it myself, but reading the reviews of it has been very entertaining.)
