Musings on the muse and my inner brat

My mother loves an online resource that encourages organizational skills and a less-cluttered life. (Flylady? I should look that up...) One of her e-mail updates from the website said something about our "inner brat"--that sometimes we need to bribe them and accept some of their needs. I don't recall many more details but the woman who wrote this had named her inner brat. And at that moment I knew--Angelina has always been there, waiting for me to acknowledge her existence.

Frankly I found it disconcerting how quickly this became a part of my daily life. If I need to work on something during the week that I don't want to do, I tell Angelina that I'll feed her ice cream, or allow unlimited Saturday internet time, or... whatever works. Sometimes this is successful, sometimes not.

I didn't find the idea of a muse as a separate entity to be as easily acceptable as my innter brat. But now... I have a sneaking suspicion that Angelina is my muse. Or they're really good friends. The cooperation rate of Angelina and the muse is about equal, that is to say that neither one is particularly cooperative. They're balky, they refuse to work when I have time, and they demand attention when I don't have time.
