I've got chills, they're multiplyin'

Like everyone else in the world on LJ, I've downloaded the pilot episodes for some of the new NBC fall shows, from Amazon Unbox. So far I've watched Chuck and The Bionic Woman. By the way, it appears I'll be watching Battlestar Galactica this way. Downloads are slower than with iTunes (that may be a function of time of day, though), but the picture and sound quality are both good--in fact, the picture quality may be higher than with iTunes. (Hey, the downloads are free for four different NBC pilot show, so if you haven't found some other source for them, go to their Video download page. You do still have to click as if you're buying a download, but the price will be $0.00.)

Anyway, here's a quick reaction to both shows.

Chuck: The word for this episode is charming. We were given a nice introduction to the characters and the basic show premise. I laughed out loud a few times and smiled a lot. I liked the relationship between Chuck and his sister, I thought Chuck's work situation was handled very well and Chuck attempting to re-enter the social world was very amusing. The action sequences were done nicely. I'll definitely give the second episode a try.

Other fandom watch: Adam Baldwin as Jayne! a bloodthirsty government agent!

The Bionic Woman: well... the idea has a lot of potential. After watching the first episode I'd say that potential is currently unfulfilled. The pacing was awkward, I didn't find most of the characters to be very engaging, and so far I'm just not very interested. I'll give the second episode a try if I can watch it for free--otherwise I won't bother. In the show's defense, though, it may find its stride later in the season, once we've gotten most of the exposition out of the way.

Other fandom watch: Katee Sackhoff, of course. (Recurring villain role!) Brief appearance of Aaron Douglas--probably not a recurring role--and Mark Shepherd, who is definitely going to be in more than one episode.

random fact: I used to have a Bionic Woman doll. My middle brother had a Six-Million Dollar Man doll. I can remember smuggling my doll into church so I could play with it. In fact, I remember that doll better than I remember the old show.

Rose's really weird French video rec: Camille has released two albums in France. I ordered them yesterday through Amazon France (because it's cheaper than through US Amazon, since I'm ordering multiple items). The second album, Le Fil has this awesome song called Ta Douleur. I've been listening to it for a few months now. Anyway, I read that the video was interesting, so I found it on YouTube: it's really cool and strange, go watch!
