Ne me quitte plus jamais

Well I had a very different evening than I was planning yesterday. I was hoping to work on revising some fic and watch "Lost." Instead I got to read by candlelight. Power was knocked out by some big storms and it wasn't restored to my area until sometime today. I don't know when exactly because I was already at work. Putting on makeup by candlelight is quite the adventure.

Tonight I have to write tests and maybe watch "Lost" online if I get enough other stuff done. Oh, and I have to clean out the fridge and freezer, since a lot of the food won't be worth keeping. *sigh*

Oh computer, never ever leave me again. *hugs it close*
and DVD player and TV
and lamps
and hairdryer

Losing power always makes me feel like a pilgrim. It'll be 9pm, no power, completely dark... and what do you do? NOTHING. There's no computer, it's hard to read by flashlight (and bad for the eyes), and no tv or lights or... anything. It's sad.

I am very dependent on electricity.

Anyways, I'm glad your power is back and I'm looking forward to reading your fic!!!

I am very dependent on electricity.

I know! Everything I thought of doing in place of writing and watching "Lost" also involved electricity. And frankly I can't believe Abraham Lincoln didn't go blind studying by the fireside.

I meant to reply again to your offer about reading the fic, which is why I popped on LJ. I finished a first draft this week and went ahead and sent it off to [livejournal.com profile] jashyr, who figured out some things that I think will help a lot. So after I finish a second draft we'll see... it might need another pair of eyes by then or maybe it'll be magically better. (This is not a very long fic, but Princess Cally is making things difficult.)

I really am working on writing a test... after procrastinating by watching "Ugly Betty" again--you'll appreciate that! (Okay, I'm sure everyone else has said this months ago: Henry is just... I just wanna smoosh him and take him home to my mother. So cute! And his little daydream sequence was just cute... okay, now I'm abusing the words just and cute. Heh.)

I just realized that my comment may have sounded weirdly ambiguous about reading fic--I was meaning that I was still thinking about taking you up on the offer to read it for advice, but only if I think it's still not working in some way after I do revisions. (Am I being even more confusing now?)

Oh, another thing I'm glad to have with electricity: the quiet hum of appliances. I had a hard time sleeping last night without it.

Yay, you watched "Ugly Betty!" Yes, we all need a Henry of our very own because he is the definition of adorable. Sigh.

Heh don't worry about the reading fic comment; I understood what you were saying, and if you don't think it's still working/want another opinion, then feel free to ask me. But I won't be offended if you don't, so please don't worry! I'll just rejoice in the prospect of your fic being ready that much quicker!

And yeah, you never realize how much noise there is until it's not there... now I'm all paranoid about my power going out. I love power.

Hope the storm wasn't too bad over where you are, I've never been part of a storm bad enough to take down the electic (roadworks, on the other hand, seem to be the major culprit round my way.)

Electrical problems due to storms are normal here, although usually the power outages last only seconds or minutes, not hours. I was fortunate--there were still a few areas without power even last night, twenty-four hours after the storm had passed. Luckily there were no tornadoes in my area. (I've had lots of experience huddling in central rooms or basements, but I've never been personally affected by tornadoes.)
