this is me not grading tests
A few years ago I had the nerd twins in my first-period class, Luke* and Billy. They weren't actually related, but they loved "Buffy" with a fiery passion and they were truly geeky. They used to pretend to stake each other in the hallway (and sometimes across the room from each other until I moved their seats so that they couldn't have constant eye contact). They also pretended to shoot guns at each other and generally acted like, well, ultra-nerdy ninth-grade boys.
One day Melanie (another student in first period) said "Miss Rose, Luke is pointing a gun at me!"
Knowing Melanie's penchant for dramatics and Luke's tendencies for weirdness, I calmly asked, "What kind of gun?"
"This kind," she answered, and waved her hand in the air, index finger pointing out as the barrel of the gun.
Luke interrupted. "That's nothing." He put his hands at his waist as if they were holstered guns. "I got these guns..." and pulled both hands up, index fingers pointing outward. "And these guns..." he repeated his actions, but this time he flipped out his middle fingers. He stopped talking or moving. We were all looking at him, he was looking at us and his face went red as he realized he was flipping off the whole class. There was a brief moment of silence and then everyone except Luke exploded into laughter.
Yeah, that was a fun day.
