Perhaps I should sew shirtless Lee a new top.

I keep sewing stuff. There's nothing fabulous and new to show for my efforts, but my adorable black skirt with the white trim has a much more flattering length and I have two more pairs of shorts (that were formerly trousers). My denim skirt actually fits well at the waist for the first time ever. Oh, and my poor embroidered blouse from Ecuador that was too small is now part of a pillowcase. The other embroidered blouse I bought in Ecuador is now slightly more fitted.

My sewing machine seems to think it's being abused. I'm guessing that the timing is off. Since it's an inexpensive Singer, this isn't surprising. I may have to look into buying a new machine. A better machine. (Getting the timing fixed is almost half the cost of a new Singer.) Or possibly I should stop the sewing binge for now and switch to a beading binge, since I have lots and lots of unfinished beading projects I can work on.

I keep saying I'm going to work on writing some fic, but that's not happening yet. Hm.

*looks at time* Ooops, need to hurry...

eta: You know, doing things like converting trousers to shorts are those ten-minute jobs. Which means it takes two hours and a trip to Home Depot Hobby Lobby to finish. These "little" adjustments are never as quick as I'd like, which is why I tend to save them up and do them in the summer. Of course, that means not being able to wear most fruit of my labor until work starts again. I hate waiting for the right time to wear new (or newly revised) clothes. I want the right time to be NOW.

Eeek, those crafters are scary!

yes, they are. quite. especially late at night when you are trying to close the store and leave and they see you inside and call from the parking lot and complain. It happened last night, an hour after we closed, as we were about to walk out.

places to get a new machine

Howdy sis! If you do consider getting a different machine, here are some good places to find one. 1)Craigslist, of course! I just got an old (1970) White sewing machine for $50 in perfect condition so that the kids can learn to sew on it. It is one of the almost indestructible, older, almost completely metal machines and came mounted in a table that it folds down into. This is a definite plus with so many little fingers to fiddle at our house. 2)Sewing machine shops. Many dealers take "trade ins" when a customer upgrades to a new machine. My older, used, bernina came from a Pfaff dealing store for $250. It is still a newer machine than the White and has a computer chip, etc, but it is a real made in Switzerland Bernina (unlike some of the lower end machines they make now days). 3) Repair shop. I would guess that you might find some at a sewing machine repair shop. Many sewing machine dealers also do repairs. Hope the one you have holds out for you a little longer!

I've just barely peeked at craigslist, but I did take a look at some reviews. The Husqvarna Emerald 116 or 118 sounds pretty good, and there are a few available on e-bay. Thanks for the other tips! I'm debating over waiting until the current machine dies a horrendous death, or going ahead and buying something sooner. Hm.
