day 25 of favorite female characters
You know who's awesome? ME! In the the past three days I have kept control of an oversugared group of adolescents on the last day before the holidays started, attended a Christmas party (and even had an appropriate gift for the hosts, who recently bought their first house), played two songs in a piano recital (first time playing piano in public in... many, many years), made and gave some Christmas presents AND finished and uploaded my Yuletide fic! (Okay, the first draft. But it is a COMPLETE first draft.)
CAPSLOCKS ARE HERE TO EXPRESS HOW ACCOMPLISHED I AM! HURRAH!
Okay. Back to normal letters and to favorite fictional females. Next up: Princess Leia.

I was young enough when the first (technically fourth, eh) movie came out that playing with the characters was a favorite pastime. My best friend had long dark hair, so she was Leia, and I had short sandy blonde hair, so I was Luke. ("Playing" Star Wars usually meant running around announcing who we were and then saying something like, "Oh no, Darth Vader's coming!" And we'd run some more. Hee!)

Princess Leia was way cooler than the princesses who got rescued in fairy tales. She shot guns! And organized revolutions! And was a government representative before that! Granted that she needed rescuing once or twice*, she still did a lot of awesome things.
*And she only needed rescuing because villainouspeople entities wanted her to stop doing the awesome things she was doing.
Plus she got to kiss Han Solo. (We'll just block out that part about kissing Luke, okay?) And give medals. And valiantly resist torture! And go save Han while wearing a disguise! I'm also going to ignore the gold bikini. And then she's going to become a Jedi.
Space princesses are really great.

And she needed rescuing about as often as the guys did ;) And immediately took charge. Leia is AWESOME, I definitely agree :)

And yay for Princess Leia. When she was awesome, she was really awesome.
To me the saddest moment in her character arc is when Yoda says that if Luke fails 'there is another', meaning her. And, really? Leia could have done everything that Luke did? I want to watch that movie instead.

That would be an awesome movie, yes.

I played Star Wars too as a child. Except I was always the ewok (by choice! he was my favorite).
