gimme movies!

Anyone have any thoughts or observations about Netflix versus Blockbuster's mail service? No? How about gratuitous off-topic remarks?

Heh, I actually do. I use Netflix, but I have a niece who uses Blockbuster. It seems to work okay for her, but my [immediate] family regularly attempts to convince her to switch because we've had some very bad experiences with Blockbuster's customer service (to the point where we've basically made an unwritten family pact to never enter a store again). Netflix has been a painless and satisfying experience for me, and I've been a "3-at-a-time unlimited" subscriber since May 2005 (ever since they took over Wal-Mart's very brief attempt to offer the rent-by-mail service). We get fast turn-over, few problems with unplayable discs (and when there IS a problem, no problems *reporting* it to them), and their selection encompasses...everything, basically. If that helps... *g*

Thanks for the information. From choosing a few actor names (randomly) and searching it does look like Netflix has a bigger selection... and I'm glad to hear that customer service is good.

I've used neither Netflix nor Blockbuster but I can do vaguely off-topic - has anyone else noticed that the emergence of both dvd and downloading seems to have killed the local video rental stores? There used to be loads of them near where I live but now there's only the odd global chain outlet.

I think most video rental stores are going to be relegated to niche markets, rather than the huge businesses they once were. It seems to me that a lot of store space used for videos before is now being used for renting video games.
