TV: The Killing, day 5

Day five of "The Killing": The first part didn't hold my attention as much as previous episodes; I'm not sure why. By the halfway mark it was working for me again.

I continue to dislike Linden's impending (or not) departure as a plot device. For one thing, it makes Linden and Holder into antagonists rather than allies. How much is Holder going to learn from her when he resents that she's still doing the job he's supposed to do? (Also, celibate? Interestingly offbeat sort of confession.)

That being said, I was surprised at the implication that Rick and Sarah have known each other for a while. My impression from before was that this relationship was new(er).

Holder is doing things (non-work related?) that aren't easily deciphered, and Linden is wondering about it. I'm not sure where this is going.

Main plot stuff! Bennet Ahmed's explanations are not a match with what else we learn about him. While I would be surprised if he's the killer, he's not so squeaky-clean. At all. Also, there's ammonium hydroxide in his apartment, and the same compound on Rosie's skin.

Rosie made movies. I always have a hard time watching supposedly student-created work, but putting that aside, it gives us a needed glimpse into a girl who has been nothing but a plot point for the audience.

Richmond's campaign machinations continue to increase in interest. Ytanes is more devious than expected, while Richmond himself is unable to take the next step to get Mitch Larsen's support.

Speaking of the Ytanes part, I only have the vaguest recollections of seeing "Nathan" before, so making him connected to someone we do know was vital. I'm kinda pleased that it apparently wasn't the current mayor who planted a mole.

Stanley Larsen doesn't choose to share his grief with his wife. Their children don't choose to share their grief (expressed more subconsciously) with either parent.

I don't really have much else to say. We're in the middle. It feels middle-ish. Perhaps a bit too much.

(Haha, poor Jamie in the bathroom! His decision to rest his head on his left hand rather than his right made me laugh.)

Didn't that kid he interrogated say something like "do they know you've got the itch like I do?" So I'm thinking early stages of drug addiction. Or that's what they want us to think. A catalyst for Linden to worry about him and stay on longer, at any rate.

They're definitely making him look guilty, which probably means there's a (relatively) innocent explanation. But yeah, crossing the line with one student could be an error in judgment, but three is starting to make him look seriously creepy. Poor pregnant wife, too. :/

I know the older boy was sneaking out of the house to hide his wet clothes, but what was the little one doing? Was he sneaking out to buy Rosie's cereal?

I'm starting to like Jamie in spite of my early impressions...

I saw some speculation that it was money Holder put in the mailbox... and that it was child support money?

Yes. I don't think all former student/former teacher relationships that form are inherently creepy (though many, many are), but Ahmed definitely has repeated boundary problems, and that's NOT a good thing.

He went out to get milk to put on (the last of) her cereal.

Yes, me too! Which is... pleasant, since we're probably going to keep seeing him?

I liked the beginning. I am worried about Rosie's brothers. They are trying to take care of themselves but they are just children.

Sarah isn't going anywhere until Rosie's murder is solved. Her boyfriend knows that which is why he's canceling the barbeque.

I don't think the teacher killed her. He's too obvious. Maybe that disagreeable politician lady whose husband has the city cleaning contracts? Now she wouldn't surprise me.

His decision to rest his head on his left hand rather than his right made me laugh.
Hee! He kind of had to shake it but the 'do not want to' was priceless on his face. ;-)

I feel so terrible still for Mich. It's only been five days. I'm torn, though, because the boys need her.

Yes, poor little guys.

It would be interesting to see how they tie Rosie into her storyline, if that's the route they go. I'd be much more inclined to believe in a "wrong place, wrong time" event if that's the case.

*giggles* YES!

Oh, Mitch. She's starting to come out of it, slowly, but time is a luxury she can ill-afford right now. Unfortunately. It's not fair. :(

It would be! However they do it, I could see her paying someone to kill Rosie. Not sure about a motive, though. This person chased that girl through the woods instead of just shooting her. I can't imagine any of the character we've seen doing that, I really can't.

It's not fair. :(
It's so not. Her baby girl isn't even in the ground yet. But her family so needs her. That little boy going to buy milk in his pajamas nearly broke my heart. And scared me. Mitch really can't lose another child or deal with something happening to one of them right now.
