why can't I have exactly what I want, when I want it, with no effort on my part?

I want pancakes; odd, because that's not something I normally crave. Sadly I'm almost out of maple syrup. I may have to make do with various jams. WHY MUST MY PANTRY OPPRESS ME LIKE THIS?!
