overview of stories I wrote about TV show characters in 2011

In 2011 I wrote eight stories in three fandoms, two of the them new to me (Person of Interest, Parks and Recreation). I also wrote several comment-fics throughout the year, all of it for BSG. They're scattered around here and there. You can get to most using the myfic tag. Total word count (leaving out comment-fics) around 21000. Nearly the same numbers as in 2010.

Fanfic meme thingy for 2011. As in years past, I picked (and made up) categories rather than using only those in the actual meme.
Personal favorite story: I can't choose, but all three that are vying for the position are BSG fics.

Most fun story to write: Can't Seem to Wipe This Smile Off My Face for the Ben Wyatt = Kermit the Frog analogy. (It's funny because it's true!) Also because I giggled out loud when I realized it had to be Orin who spotted them making out at the movies. This was quick and easy to write--started and finished in just one evening. (The slapdash writing shows, but I'm not going to change it.)

Story I wrote to fix things: Hm... Follow Home. Not that it fixed anything, but it let me give voice to a character who barely had one on the show.

Story most under-appreciated by the universe: Closer to the Sun didn't get many comments. Not sure whether it's a problem with the story or just another sign of how much BSG fandom is fading. Or both. (I like the story, so at least my target audience is happy, haha. And I've been reading less BSG fic myself, so I can't get too snippy about it.)

Themes, or absence thereof: *shrugs* I still like writing the POV of damaged characters, but considering that BSG is still my main fandom (certainly by word count it dominates), that's... pretty much any character. (Hah, that's almost certainly part of why I'm drawn to Person of Interest in a fannish way.)

Writing technique or style you’ve done well improved: Hopefully dialogue. Appetite for Destruction told a zombie story almost exclusively with dialogue (phone conversations); I can only hope that dialogue gets a bit easier with all that practice.

Did you take any writing risks this year? I wrote stories in two new fandoms; I think that counts. I signed up for Yuletide for the second time, and it was still nerve-wracking.

Biggest Surprises: Three things. First, Ruckus proved that I can write AU if it's a gift fic written to someone else's prompt. That amuses me. Next, I wrote 9000+ words of fic in "Closer to the Sun" and there were no Twos! I didn't think I could write long fic without a Two. Finally, "Closer to the Sun" had sex scenes, plural, in some detail. Considering I don't usually bother reading other people's NC-17 rated fics, this really counts as an odd surprise.

fic goals: NONE.
