Person of Interest 1.12

Person of Interest stuff. I really like this show. (Um, yeah. In case that wasn't obvious.) It's not the show I'm watching for its firm grip on reality, though. It's sort of a sci-fi comic-book procedural: the sci-fi portion being the infallible Machine (it's like magic!) and the procedural because it does have some aspects in common with a lot of cop shows. I don't have to explain the comic-book aspect, right?

All this to say that it's unlikely I'll be complaining about the lack of realism in how Carter does her job, or how Finch's computer skills are impossible superhuman. Mostly I just want the following: screen time for all three of them, Finch's snark, Reese's Batman swoop and Carter's various expressions of disdainful eye-rolliness. Oh, and her handcuffing people.

I'm also not invested in the personal interactions in a deep way, at least not yet. It's early to demand absolute trust between any pair on the show. And I don't need any romantic pairings... in fact, it would be hard to convince me of the viability of any sexual/romantic interactions between any of the potential couples at this point.

Not to say I wouldn't give Carter/Reese fanfiction a try, but I'd need a lot of reasons not to feel like those two are implausible as a couple. Though I would definitely read a multi-chapter story in which Reese realizes that The Machine itself is a threat and he and Carter go after it, and develop a bond as they try and outsmart an infallible non-human (and Finch), and then they manage to destroy it. And then they live happily ever after and Reese ends up as a sort of stay-at-home stepdad to Taylor and he goes through chef training (why waste those physical skills?) and sometimes he helps Carter with her work, but only if she asks him, because THAT'S THE DEAL. No interfering with her work unless she requests it.

Yeah... I'm sure someone is writing that as I type this. Heee!

Anyway, on to the episode! 1.12 "Legacy" talks a lot about second chances and living with your past. Hm, I wonder who that might apply to?!

We start with a date! Carter makes an apology for getting Reese shot... and mentions not being able to find an "I'm sorry I got you shot card." Hee! And now there's an NYPD task force looking for Reese, not just Snow and his goons. But Carter lost them on her way to this cafe, so it's all good.

Side note: I like Carter's hair like this, with the top part pulled back.

Carter: "Why me?"
Reese: "Because your moral compass is pointed in the right direction. And because I'm tired of you chasing me."
*grins*

Finch looks even more bug-eyed than usual. Worried about his baby, The Machine.

Finch and Reese dialogue while we get flashes of Reese tailing the new number, Andrea Gutierrez. Local girl, had some trouble as a teen, now a lawyer, in debt for her schooling, cute as a button... and doing that thing that irritates me without fail. What thing? That combo of teetering in too-high heels, carrying too many bags, and then she buys a cup of coffee to carry on top of all that. Meh. It happens way too much on TV and in the movies.

We see Terrence, her client, and his shady-looking parole officer. And then "Andy" calls in a favor with Chris, apparently an old friend.

Carter calls Reese with info and Fusco gets suspicious of Carter's actions, so he calls Reese to tell him to watch his ass. "I appreciate your concerns about my ass, Lionel." Hah.

Andrea leaves the pub, followed by a Mysterious Guy. Well, Another Mysterious Guy, since Reese has been tailing her as well. And oh no, Other Mysterious Guy has nefarious intentions! Reese tackles him and has a hard time with it, what with his recent gunshot wound.

Commercial break, and then Reese does a catwalk strut into the Library Lair of Loneliness. (Seriously. He even does a little turn, as if to show off the cut of his suit jacket.) Ooh, he's trying to access Finch's computer! No luck, and Finch shows up, only to leave again on Mysterious Business. (This show brings out the capitol letters.)

Finch lurks on a sidewalk until some kid named Will shows up and hugs him. Ooh, mysterious.

Reese and Carter have a phone conversation about the steroids. Apparently Reese made his way into her NYPD precinct and left the little bottle there for her to investigate. Sneaky.

Reese meets with Andrea as a potential client and then swaps out her flashdrive. Like everyone else, I loved Reese's snarky comments about his strange eccentric boss.

Side note: Jim Caviezel is just ridiculously handsome.

Andrea brings her client's kid to a quick meeting. Cute kid. "Everyone deserves a second chance," Andrea tells her client.

Carter calls with information about what gyms are known to deal with that particular steroid, and tells Reese to make sure that none of those gyms becomes a crime scene. "You have my word, detective." hahahaha.

Dude runs and, uh... ooops. Carter's Not Pleased about now-dead dude.

Dominic Galuska shakes down a parolee for money, so Reese swoops in all Batman-like, then stuffs an unconscious Galuska into his own truck, pours booze onto him and calls 9-1-1.

Will and Finch visit "the old loft," which belonged to Will's father, Nathan Ingram. Reese not-so-sneakily takes pictures of them. Will talks about wanting to help people... Awwww, a hug for Finch!

Carter Not Pleased about Reese framing Galuska, but she passes along the news that Galuska himself may have been framing his parolees to get them thrown back in prison. "In the meantime, can you try not to break any more laws?" she asks him.

Back in Andrea's office, where she tells Reese, "I like my guys not quite so... better looking than me." Ahahaha.

Carter interrogates Galuska. I love her various facial expressions as she talked to him. While Carter talks to Galuska, Reese takes Galuska's computer. "You broke into his apartment?!" Carter says, and Reese answers something about her having to follow the law, not him.

Finch peruses Galuska's financial records. Galuska is the one making payments to carry out a hit on Andrea. Plural on the payments, so John swoops in to help Andrea again. Reese takes Andrea to a safe house--a place with a whole lot of big windows, by the way. Weird.

Another Carter-Reese coffee date. Heeeeeee, oh show. "You're getting better at ditching your tail. Maybe you have a knack for breaking the law." More Carter facial expressions. Awesome.

Carter has figured out that the parolees Galuska has framed are all single parents. He has to have a connection with DFS. The Carter-Reese conversation finishes with Reese complimenting Carter and Carter saying, "It's my job... And I didn't even have to shoot anyone to do it."

Interrogation of the couple watching Terrence's kid. Finch calls during the interrogation and Carter and Finch snark at each other. Then Finch sneaks into DFS and replaces part of the paper shredder so he can scan the documents that Gloria Copeland will doubtless be shredding.

Terrence calls Andrea about being transferred to Atica. She can't stay in the safe house now--she has to move to get the transfer stopped.

Docs are being shredded, but Copeland isn't the one doing it. Dun dun DUN! It can only be Chris, Andrea's friend at DFS. "You know the shame of it, Andy? Turns out you're actually a pretty good lawyer." And he pulls a gun and forces her to move into some file storage area...

Finch figures out that Chris was forging Copeland's signature. Chris monologues that the children of the parolees were better off in foster care than with their convict parents.

Andrea uses her stick-weapon thingy (what's that called, anyway?) to hit Chris, and then she runs, using file cabinets to help block the path behind her. Reese swoops in, shoots Chris in the shoulder and gets him to run to where Carter is waiting to arrest him.

Terrence is reunited with his son, Andrea won a suit against the state (and a nice payment), and Reese gets a hug. D'awwwww! A hug for both of the loner dudes in this episode!

"Uncle Harold" and Will talk about Will's dad, and... dun dun DUN! Will has been taking a look into some of the auditing paperwork and has already figured out that his father's company sold something either worthless or priceless to the government.

Closing scene: Finch doesn't open up to Reese during a phone conversation, and Reese then talks to Fusco, who's doing some job for him.
Fusco: "This job ending anytime soon?"
Reese: "As soon as I get some answers."

And we pan out and see that Fusco is trailing Finch! Dun dun DUUUUUN!

your icon is making me wonder who Wonder Woman is in the PofI 'verse.

(I assume from this you don't need the link? if you do let me know. I did find one)

I thought Reese was a bit noncommittal about how he got the envelope to Carter's desk, so I assumed he just paid someone to deliver it. I suppose Elias got to her desk, so Reese could, too, but it seems risky for little reason when he could just have someone do it for him.

Andrea's thing about not dating guys who are better looking than she is was so funny. Was that the first direct reference in show to Caviezel being ridiculously good-looking? I don't remember anything about, for ex, witnesses talking about the 'man in the suit' also being "really tall and handsome dude in a suit" y'know? So it's kind of like they were playing it down.

It was nice to see Finch being all affectionate with Nathan's son. Good to see another side to him, even if he was still being secretive... But boy is it all gonna blow up in his face.

We do need a Wonderwoman, yes. Though Carter almost has a lasso of truth, right? heee

Ah, didn't think about Reese paying someone to deliver it. Probably because of Elias, in fact.

I do think they were playing down Caviezel's COMPLETELY OVER-THE-TOP GOOD LOOKS before this, because yes, it was never "a handsome dude in a suit." And someone in one of the comms pointed out that his shirt was more unbuttoned this time than before. Heh. Maybe "more humor" and "more Carter" weren't the only things the network was pushing for.

Finch: yes, it's going to be a mess. Mostly because Will is a mess. Oh dear...

I didn't notice, but now I'll have to check his State of Buttonness. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT OKAY. and also now I hope they had a directive for more shirtlessness. not that I'm shallow, AT ALL

As soon as I get the episode, I'll help. Though I should point out that, having reread that comment, the commenter was talking about since the series began, not from the beginning of this episode to the end.

But yes, there should be a button count. How many unbuttoned per episode... maybe a picspam is necessary. *nods*

Sometimes I love fandom.
