another ficlet
Today was horribly unproductive at work. Gah. I want classes to start--at least students don't pretend to be helpful when they waste my time.
Ficlet:
She was on the floor, back against the wall, hands clasped around her knees. Astonishing, really--why had she expected a different reception? The thrall of her newly-discovered knowledge had swallowed up the harsher aspects of life on the run. Returning from the dead wouldn't be accepted well, not even from a Viper pilot. That was one thing she knew about herself, though--she wasn't a cylon. Nearly everything she had believed had been overturned, but she was sure of her humanity.
Unlike the other occupant of the room--the blonde cylon, the same model she had killed twice on Caprica. Deceptively fragile in appearance, she sat on the cot, staring into space. Sometimes she murmured, unintelligible phrases flowing together with the sound of the recycled air moving through the cell. Blonde hair shifted as she turned her head and whispered toward the side wall. Kara's return from the dead had given her an unusual cell-mate.
"Are you one of them?" Kara was surprised to hear the cylon speak.
"What?"
"The final five cylons. Are you one of them?"
"No." Cocking her head to one side, she asked, "Shouldn't you be able to tell?"
No. They're... different from us." Her face showed frustration. "It's hard to talk about."
Kara wondered if she knew more about the remaining five cylons than this cylon model did. She smiled to herself. "How are they different?"
The blonde paused and looked to the side again. Her eyes widened, then filled with tears. "That's not true," she muttered. She turned back towards Kara again. "Knowledge of who the five remaining cylon models has been blocked from us. We don't know how they're different, but they are."
Kara leaned her head back against the wall. "I know who they are." If everything she said was being analyzed, why not give them some work to do. Kara grinned at the cylon's shocked expression. What would be the reaction of the people monitoring the cell? "The Five are a part of the plan to get to Earth." She stopped talking then--this cylon believed herself to be a traitor to her own kind, but Kara didn't want to risk revealing too much to a potential enemy. The seven cylon models known to the fleet were still a possible danger. It all depended on how this played out.
The cylon looked like a marble statue--a sculpture of awe and fear. "Destiny," she whispered. "Leoben talked about it. He said that Starbuck has a destiny."
Kara nodded. "Leoben was telling the truth... for once," she added with a twisted smile. "I have a job to do, even though I didn't choose it. It chose me."
The cylon looked down. "Can I... is there some way I can help?"
Kara had hoped for this. "We'll need everyone's help to succeed." Trying to set this up was more complicated than any card game she'd played; more players and higher stakes. She took a deep breath and prepared herself to gamble.

Six is so beautiful. Six + Kara? The future's about to be whipped into shape!

Six is a scene-stealer, heh. It's hard to compete with a lovelorn, crazy robot.
Invisble people are so annoying. Can't ignore them, can't really argue out loud with them.
And invisible Gaius is really not very nice to her most of the time. Man, if I were stuck with an invisible lover I'd hope that he was more sympathetic. *g*

I'm just saying.
Lovely ficlet, hon... very well done. And I like that you captured Kara's apprehension about her new role, and the way that Caprica can be so vulnerable at times.

I vote that Caprica, Sam, Leoben (or not!Leoben, whatever) and Kara go off and be cool together.
Seconded. (However, if I actually tried writing this I'd be forced to have an actual plot. Curses.)

I feel for her when head!Gaius speaks to her. I'll agree with daybreak above and say that Six caught my attention more so than Kara. great job.

it's kind of sad since she's not the only one who plays on Caprica's vulnerability
If the fleet ever realized just how easily they could manipulate her (using real Gaius, for example)... poor Six.
