Amy Acker guest appearance

Amy Acker! She's going to be a guest star on the finale of Person of Interest TOMORROW (Thursday, May 17)! I have helpfully created a guide that will enable those of you who don't watch the show to have some clue about what's going on, in case you decide to tune in. Because AMY ACKER! Suddenly I want to dig out my Angel DVDs.

So benevolent less-evil Ben Linus, now known as Harold Finch, wanted to stop terrorist attacks before they could happen. To do so he created a super-computer program that spies on all of us all the time. Finch's business partner once called it an Orwellian nightmare.

The Machine is a big secret. Its creator Finch's very existence is also a secret--at least one of his identities was declared dead a couple of years ago, and almost no one knows he was the one who actually built the Machine.

The Machine's point of view includes surveillance cameras and boxes identifying various people.

In addition to finding potential terrorists, the Machine also picks up so-called irrelevant data: information about potential individual homicides. Although Finch turned his Machine over to the government three years ago, he can still secretly access the irrelevant list.

Since no one else cares about that list, Finch decided to do something about it himself. He recruited Jesus John Reese, a former CIA operative who was also presumed dead. Together, they fight crime!

No, really. They do. Reese is the unrealistic badass in the duo; Finch is the brains. They're sort of an amalgam of Batman. Reese takes care of the hero side of things (no cape, though), Finch has Bruce Wayne's money plus Oracle's job.

After being recruited, Reese formed his own little team. He snagged a crooked cop, Fusco, and used dirt on him to get Fusco to help out from time to time. Eventually that turned into a longer-term plan: Fusco is still working with an organization of dirty cops, but he's now a mole for Reese. They're planning to take down "HR" (the name for the band of crooked cops) from the inside.

Carter does the Commissioner Gordon shtick: a straight arrow cop. She first came in contact with Reese while doing her job, tracking him because of his vigilante activities. Eventually--after getting Reese shot, among other things (oops)--she started working with him as well.

Carter and Fusco are officially work partners, but Reese hasn't let either of them know that they're both helping the same men from time to time. And when Carter digs deeply enough, she'll discover that her partner is working with HR. It's going to be a mess! Possibly this week, even! *bounce bounce bounce*

Both of these pictures make me laugh and laugh.

I mentioned that Reese was presumed dead at one point; thanks to being an indiscreet unrealistic badass with Batman tendencies, the CIA now knows he's still alive. They would really like to change that. The FBI has started a task force to chase after Reese, because they want to use him to reveal the CIA's illegal activities on US soil. Reese has also managed to annoy the US Marshal service, the NYPD... basically, everybody wants to get Reese for various reasons.

We've had some recurring characters. My favorite is Catwoman Zoe Morgan; she'll be in this episode. Reese saved her life; she returned a favor, so... who knows what Catwoman will do next? Help the dynamic duo or use them to her advantage?

Oh, and we've also seen her in a few episodes:

Flashback!Corwin... and current Corwin, whose paranoia has made an impact on her lifestyle.

Alicia Corwin. She used to work for the NSA, and is one of the few people alive who knows of the Machine. Last week, while lurking about, she found out that Finch is the one who actually built the Machine.

Corwin's surveillance is just one example of that theme at work on the show. We've often seen Reese spy on Finch because he wants to know more about who gives him information he has about their work. Carter in turn pushes for answers from Reese about how Finch and Reese are getting their information about people in danger/causing danger. So basically there are relationship triangles all over the place, which is pretty cool for a procedural.

Buuuuuut... it definitely is a procedural. That makes it easy to watch for a single episode. Plot comes before characterization. That's fine! I'm watching John Reese over-identify with people (which gets him into trouble on a regular basis), Carter arresting people and Carter's pretty hair (which gets me into trouble because we've been cursed with the ponytail lately), and, um, people shooting things and getting photogenic wounds.

Looking at the promo pics, Amy Acker will get to see John Reese prettily bleeding. Awesome.

Can't wait until the final tomorrow! Thanks for posting this up it was fun to read. "He recruited Jesus John Reese, a former CIA operative who was also presumed dead." That made me laugh. I think about how my friends write their fic's of smut starring John Reese who played Jesus and think. "OMG you made the guy who played Jesus DO that?" LMAO. I am just as guilty though with my own John "Jesus" Reese smut.
