now what?

NBC isn't renewing its contract with iTunes. Battlestar Galactica is an NBC production, even though it airs on Sci-Fi. I'm not sure what this will mean for the show.

This is NBC's plan for now:
This fall, the company will launch, in association with News Corp., an online video portal called Hulu that will offer several of its TV shows. The site, to debut in October, is seen as a response to the phenomenal success of the online video-sharing site YouTube.

I was fine with paying iTunes $1.99 per episode and being able to legally download BSG, but if there's going to be a higher price to pay (especially since I'll probably buy the DVD's later), or simply a lack of availability without having cable or satellite... hm. At any rate, this quote sums it up nicely, I think:
"NBC has the confidence," said Forrester's McQuivey, "that people that want these shows can get them [without iTunes]."
*cracks up* Ya think? Yes, I'm fairly certain that we'll find a way.

Both quotes from this article.

Not the result I would have predicted for myself. On the other hand, I tried again and got the Albino, so I'll stick with this.

This made me laugh for several minutes. Take what one can get, right?

I am such a sheep. But a happy sheep. :-)

I AM:
Miracle Max

I can live with being Max. Or Billy Crystal. Not much difference in my head, really. Though I'd rather be Carol Kane. But they're both cool.

Hm. I think I prefer Buttercup to Max, though I do agree with you, Valerie was awesome. "I'm not a witch, I'm your wife!"

I think I wanted to be Westley. Or Inigo. Or even the Sicilian. "Never start a land war in Asia." (oh my, I am such a PB nerd.)

NBC and Itunes

[identity profile] millari.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I could be proven wrong, and often am, but IMHO, NBC is on crack if they think they can build a more popular mousetrap than Itunes at this point, especially since they obviously plan to charge more money (since their beef with Itunes was that Itunes wasn't charging enough for eps). Asinine. It takes time to build a new product to viability, and when you've got a competitor people are far more familiar with, you'd better have something damn good to offer; and NBC is not going to be centrally focused enough on this endeavor to possibly come up with a better product. Super unlikely.

The result? It will cut into viewership of their shows, as more and more people schedule their viewing habits around downloads and if they can't get them, the less committed will lose interest, especially with the long-arc shows like Heroes, BSG, etc., because it will be easy to lose track and then feel you'll never catch up so why bother. The more devoted ones? About half of them will be driven to toreents.

Utterly stoopid, NBC. Who would've thought you guys invented the broadcast network?

Yup. Apple has a quality easy-to-use service (even if I do hate the music format making it difficult to play song downloads on a non-iPod mp3 player). Apparently NBC programs make up about 30% of Apple's tv downloads. I'm curious to see how that works out for Apple.

I was pleased to have an affordable legal option to keep watching BSG when I gave up my satellite dish. It irritates me that this has been taken away. No way would I pay $4.99 per episode, for example.

So yeah--ditto to all the smart things you said.

Gah NBC is stupid...

But yay for quizzes:

Inigo Montoya

I was surprised. But pleasantly so, I guess. I wouldn't mind being Buttercup though... or Valerie. Or Westley. Mmm... Westley.

I had something else to say and now I don't remember... grr.

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Inigo! I ♥ him! Swordfights! Not really left-handed! I think I'm jealous. (Oh well. At least my clothes and accessories look awesome, right? Heh.)

[identity profile] pataka02.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
And you have pretty, pretty hair! Don't forget that.

Of course, so do I. Inigo knows style. I think Princess Bride is the reason why belly buttons freak me out... I first saw it when I was very young and watching it with my sisters, and at the end where Inigo gets stabbed in the stomach and then stuffs his fist in to keep fighting, I guess I thought his belly button had split open or something and it totally scared me.

Belly buttons still freak me out to this day.

And there's my random childhood story for your benefit!

Okay, being Buttercup is worth it for the pretty hair. Thanks for the reminder. *g*

Heh, bellybutton freakout, that's very amusing. (One of my fav. French movies has two little boys speculating on the birth of their baby sister, figuring that their mother had had her bellybutton unbuttoned for the baby to come out.)

[identity profile] pataka02.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
And she's got good skin. And she's amusing. I kind of love Buttercup, actually; she loves her horse and her guy, and she's not particularly concerned about appearance until Westley makes her, I guess.

And yes, major bellybutton freakout. I was traumatized to learn that your bellybutton pops out when you're pregnant. AND a friend of mine told me that when she was little, she sucked her thumb with one hand, and played with her bellybutton with the other, and went from an innie to an outie.

Do you remember a jeans commercial from a couple of years back? I think it was jeans... or abdominal cramps or something. But it was all full of bellybuttons singing and moving and I closed my eyes whenever it came on.
