rose_griffes: John Reese from Person of Interest on CBS (reese (the *other* messed-up Reese))

I'm really not a completionist fan, in spite of this evidence to the contrary

Announcement: I have no strong feelings about Ben Affleck playing Batman in a movie. Just thought you should know. Heh. (Apparently I'm supposed to be literally angry with rage at this news, or some such thing.) Though I do have slightly positive feelings toward the idea that someone other than the Nolan brothers would be adapting this version of Batman, I also think that 1) it's really too soon, and 2) if it's the same team that made the newest Superman movie, this may not be an improvement anyway.

So I watched Savannah through Amazon's instant video service. Poor movie--it's like it wanted to be three or four different films, but succeeded at none of them. Even the soundtrack suffered from a weird split between genres. I liked parts of it, but the film didn't work as a whole.

Conclusion: if you're a completionist sort of Caviezel fan, it's certainly not going to scar you for life, but... eh.

Heee, quite frankly, the Ben Affleck thing made me laugh more than anything else. (And you know, I laughed when I read that Robert Downey Jr was going to be Sherlock Holmes, and then I saw the movie and went, "Oh. Uh. Not so bad after all..." Just saying, it's all in the delivery. Sometimes, an unlikely actor for a role just gets it right.)

But then, while I liked and respected the Nolan Batman movies, I'm not a purist or anything.

Yeah, while Affleck wouldn't have been the first actor I would have chosen, I really think wait and see is the right easiest path.

Nolan turned me off Batman so much in the last movie that really, I don't think the character could go anywhere but up at this point. I don't really have much of an opinion either way, except that I generally like Affleck. *shrugs* And I haven't seen the new Supes movie. So I have no idea if I'd even bother with Supes vs. Bats.

I haven't seen the latest Superman either, but enough people with taste I trust have given some substantial reason why the movie was a failure. I've been over the idea of seeing the latest summer blockbuster just for the sake of it, so I didn't bother giving them my money. If it shows up on Netflix, I'll give it a try at some point...

At any rate, yes, Nolan bros. Batman was such a disappointment by the end. Enough of a letdown that even their first movie feels tainted by it. Initially I found it enjoyable, but now? Nope. (The musical score is still brilliant, though.)

Dang, I had been looking forward to Savannah. I like accents, and it seemed like it could integrate "historic" with "southern" into a nice immersive experience. Hmm... doesn't sound like that worked. ;(

the idea that someone other than the Nolan brothers would be adapting this version of Batman

I admit I stopped after Tim Burton. I liked his Batman, but basically none of the others. *sigh* I'm weird. :)

I also liked Tim Burton's Batman. (Relatedly, can you imagine what people would be saying about Michael Keaton as Batman, if that movie had been made in the days of Twitter and other social media? It could make the over-reaction to Ben Affleck pale in comparison.)

Savannah didn't live up to its potential. Frankly, its worst crime was that it bored me. I'm willing to put up with a lot of bad writing for something that still entertains, but it even failed at that.
