from one feel-bad show to another
Taking a break from The Magicians (made it through 3.01) to return to The Expanse. So: still halfway through season one. Holden, Naomi, Amos, and Alex are my precious dumbasses in space. Currently they're doing yet another ill-advised noble space trip. Detective Thomas Jane Miller has grown on me; beating him to a pulp and almost killing him has made me slightly more fond of him. His hair is still stupid, though.
Chrisjen has the very best voice. I can't even describe it. But I love watching her amble in her saree, grandchild in tow, threatening other powerful people with that throaty, calm, deliberate voice.

Yes, it's deep and noble and somehow so very peaceful even in the midst of chaos.

This is probably exacerbated by how easily I get (very mild) panic attacks at the thought of going into an airless environment. So the episode I just watched (1.08?), I had to split in half. Just making it through the first half, when they're exploring an abandoned spaceship, was rough enough to make me want a break before finishing.
Miller isn't my favorite but that is a very nice userpic you used.

I usually find the setting very atmospheric, especially the space stuff. (And yeah, that exploration of that spaceship was very scary for me, too, I remember that.)
I generally did take the show seriously, it was just that one ep that started overdoing it imho. But I love (some of) the characters, and the intricate plot and especially the worldbuilding. I think it shows that there is a book behind it, it feels deep and colorful compared to the usual tv standards.

I always imprint on the men (sorry), and he's definitely the most fascinating of those, I think. I like the broken types on shows. Definitely more interesting than the other main guy, Holden? I'm good with Amos, too, but he's not smart enough to really grab me.
But there are female characters I like, too. The mechanic lady whose name I've forgotten is my fave.

Don't worry about spoilers; I already know quite a bit about the ending of season one. Which is probably why I paused on watching; I know that terrible things have happened/are about to happen to Julie Mao.

I tend to connect to women more often than men in media, but it really does depend on the show/film. Although often I'll connect more to a man, and then fans are terrible about women, so I'll talk more about them even if I like a male character more. (That's what happened with me and Person of Interest, by the way. Fandom was just so damn awful about Carter that I ended up loving her more just to spite other fans.)
Broken characters: me too, a lot of the time. Reese on PoI, of course. Kara Thrace on Battlestar Galactica. I can name several others, too. (Just... not Miller. Sorry, Miller!)
My favorite character on The Expanse so far: Naomi. Though I'm weirdly fond of Amos--he's not the type I usually care about, so it's weird to me. Oh, and I do like Holden a lot. And Chrisjen and her amazing voice, of course.
Mostly I'm enjoying the story, though. It's convoluted (so far), but interesting.
