The Good Place 4.09

Well, that was meta-ly delicious. And emotionally satisfying. And HAVE I EVER SAID THAT CHIDI IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER?! Because he is.

Ahem. Things I loved the VERY MOST:

• SOULMATES ARE MADE BY OUR CHOICES. 
• Seriously, I loved that. I really dislike almost every soulmate trope invented by humanity other than, “We choose love by our actions”. So this was LOVELY AND WONDERFUL.
• “If soulmates do exist, they are not found. They are made.”
  
• EVERY TIME THAT CHIDI’S “I SAVED MY PARENTS’ MARRIAGE’ WAS REFRAMED.
• First young Chidi does it. He worries about his parents, he makes the lesson plan, presents it... In his own narrative to his friend the next day, HE SAVED THE DAY. He found the answer. 
• The “adorable anecdote” stage where Chidi wants to impress his (soon to be ex) girlfriend. 
• The moment where Eleanor expresses sympathy that young Chidi ever had to feel like it was his job to be the savior of his parents’ marriage.
• The analysis with Michael: why it “worked”, what soulmates actually are...
• Jason, Tahani, Janet, Eleanor and Michael were ALL part of Team “Make Chidi a much wiser person”. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!
• THAT MOMENT WITH MICHAEL, WHEN CHIDI IS ABOUT TO LOSE HIS MEMORIES. BY HIS OWN CHOICE. GOSH!
• The fork in the garbage disposal. Pffft.
• THOSE RED COWBOY BOOTS. AWWW.

I feel like I got punched in the heart by a rainbow. *sobs happily*

(Heee, Esmerelda was fantastically awful. I love her.)

• Chidi: “You know what this calls for.”
• Udo: “Don’t say it.” 
• Chidi: “A Venn diagram.”

In conclusion: William Jackson Harper. Mike Shur.

Yes to all of that!! That was a great episode!

It really was! I'm just so pleased with all of the successfully done callbacks to earlier references in Chidi's dialogue.

I really liked that line too, and also the confirmation that Chidi was always looking for that someone.
