THIS IS ALL grav_ity'S FAULT. I am currently suffering the extreme woe, NAY, DISTRESS, of "I have read the book/watched the show/seen the movie and THERE IS NO FANFIC YET." (At least: none that I've found on AO3. I'm gonna look on Tumblr next.)

The book: Sherwood by Meagan Spooner. Do you want a Robin Hood story? Do you want Robin Hood to be a woman in disguise? Do you want ALL OF THE HEARTBREAK OF PLANNING AND TRYING TO HELP AND MAKING MISTAKES AND SHOOTING ARROWS AND SWORD FIGHTS AND JAIL ESCAPES? With a dash of romance? And an exploration of grief?

(The answer is yes. You want those things. Whooooooooo, the last time I felt this way was sitting on an airplane in 2018, having just watched The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) and going "YES. THIS IS MY THING. THIS IS WHAT I'M GOING TO OBSESS OVER FOR AN UNKNOWN LENGTH OF TIME.)

That’s rough. I tend to read or watch things that have no fics or fandoms. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It IS rough, especially for those things where you really want some fic. (I liked seasons 1-3 of The Expanse, but I didn't crave fic for the show.)

It really depends on the genre of the show or movie. I noticed that with comedic or action shows and films, there would be a sizeable amount of angsty or dramatic fanfics compared to humorous or fluff fics?

I was enjoying the first part of the book, but the moment that Elena stepped in to help? That was IT. I was IN LOVE. (And THEN LATER when Elena KNEW, and I was just !!!!!)

I could point to a few flaws or things I wish had been written differently, like... I would have liked a teensy bit more in the development of the romance. But. BUT: it is really hard to top, "Can you swim? Because I can't" (in combination with a leap off of a cliff into the river) as basically the best love confession ever.

And that final proposal! With the echo in the wording! WOW!

I yelled at Meagan for like an hour because THESE ARE THINGS I DO NOT USUALLY LIKE AND SHE MADE ME LIKE THEM SO MUCH AND I LOVE HER.

I KNEW THIS WOULD RESONATE WITH OTHERS.

It's not a perfect story; there are a few things I wish had been done differently or given more detail. But overall--especially once [spoilery character] gets included in the planning stage for what "Robin Hood" does--it's just MADE FOR ME. Meagan Spooner could have written, "To Rose Griffes, who loves a folk tale where a traditionally male-driven narrative is written for a woman instead," in the dedication.

Hehee, that really sounds like a great book! Expect me to read it in about four years (*side-eyes Mount to-be-read*) and never write any fanfic about it whatsoever. *g*
