a magic show and a magic book
I'm amused at the disparate responses to my question about which season two episodes of The Mandalorian to watch. At this point... we shall see. I'll probably give season two a try soon-ish but it's not a top priority.
But speaking of crowd-sourcing an episode guide: any thoughts on seasons four and five of The Expanse? I gave up on season four out of frustration over the writing for Naomi and the existence of Burn Gornam's character. ANYWAY, I could maybe re-invest in those characters if I thought season five was worth watching... IDK. Your thoughts?
WandaVision--Episodes 1-7 were fantastic, and 8 and 9 a bit of a let-down overall. Hayward ends up as a villain less from motivation and more because the show needed him to be. His goal to stop Wanda from holding an entire town hostage was admirable. Attempting to get Vision back online was less admirable, but still not exactly villain material, so... *shrug* Of course, the way that he tried to stop Wanda would probably have resulted in her death, but again, weighing the death of one super-powered character who has taken an entire town hostage versus, y'know, saving thousands of Westview residents--this falls into "I made a tough call" territory rather than villain territory.
Of course, having Wanda as the main character does make Hayward a villain for his willingness to kill her. And for the foolishness of believing he could actually succeed at killing her.
Other weak bits: that line from Monica about how the townspeople will never know all that Wanda gave up was very much the wrong tone for that moment and place. Also, I would have enjoyed seeing more shades of gray explored in both Wanda and Agatha, rather than tidily dispatching of Agatha.
But on to other things: the flaws I've mentioned are very much in line with other MCU material, and the longer format of the storytelling meant that there were lots of wonderful elements that are not usually present in the MCU. Elizabeth Olsen was a revelation in this, and I actually liked Vision by the end (as opposed to not caring about him at all).
selenak wrote a review as well.
Books: Calculated Risks (InCryptid Book 10) was a compelling and enjoyable finish to the series. Seanan McGuire does very well at pulling a reader into the narrative of "difficult" characters, and helping us see the humanity in them. Even when they're not actually human. Heh.
Currently reading the fourth book in Sabaa Tahir's quadrology. Planning to read Delia Pitt's newest neo-noir novel after that.

The Wandavision finale was a bit underwhelming for me. I was kinda disappointed with the reveal about not X-men quicksilver but other wise the show overall is entertaining.

I hear you on that. The writing for Naomi in season 5 seems to have a promising start - but most people have complained that her subplot was the worst part of Season 5. I agree. But some of the other characters had some great moments.
