Andor, rewatching episodes 4-6

Andor stuff! Again!

  • I discussed this in previous post in the comments, with [personal profile] yourlibrarian: I feel like Timm with two M’s is written as an outsider to Ferrix. A Ferrix native would a) probably have some inkling that Bix has more than just a salvaged parts business, and b) would also understand why ratting out someone to the cops is bad news for the whole community. And also c) he has a different accent than anyone else we hear on Ferrix.
  • Even though Cassian probably views himself as an outsider, he’s not treated as one by the people of Ferrix that we see him interact with.

Thoughts on episodes 4-6:

  • Who else missed the flirting between Cassian and Cinta? I literally had to go back and rewatch their scenes to notice ANYTHING that might qualify. Mostly Cassian doing an “I respect your abilities and I will give you an admiring glance” moment when he calls Cinta a healer.
  • What do you think? Was he flirting? Was Vel overreacting? Of course, Cassian *does* have a habit of going after women who are already in relationships, given Bix’s comment about married women. But Vel doesn’t know that!
  • I pinpointed part of my Syril Karn dis-appreciation: his main interactions are with characters written and visualized with an almost parodical edge: notably Linus Mosk and Mama Karn. This is particularly in evidence with his mother, so these episodes are where my annoyance with Karn increased. I mentioned before that I finally got to the point of acceptance, if not appreciation, for Syril when I realized what a good foil he is for Cassian.
  • After Skeen’s sorta-apology (the story about his nonexistent brother’s suicide) Cassian does NOT share any of his reasons for hating the Empire in return. This is a fascinating character beat, because he could say plenty! The Empire done him wrong! Lots! And yet his only response is, “Close enough.”
  • Dedra Meero is both right and wrong: yes, there are people like Cassian who acquire material that ends up with the resistance, but there isn’t YET a united rebellion planning these property thefts.
  • My google doc notes for episodes 4-6.
  • Honest Trailers: Andor. Fun if you haven’t already watched it.
  • Heist music! This track includes both the dissonant sounds that heighten the tension, and a bit of resolution at the end.

given Bix’s comment about married women

I must have forgotten about that. Frankly I thought it was pretty low key myself, and more an excuse for Vel to set up the relationship for the audience than because of what he was doing.

And you're right about Syril's interactions. It's almost as if these characters he interacts with makes him seem more self-contained than the psycho he clearly is -- which is why his behavior with Dedra surprised me when it happened, yet it makes perfect sense.
