Heh, maybe my use of trashy is a bit... pejorative. hope it didn't make you feel too defensive. I've certainly had my share of incidentally-trashy shows
I prefer shows with some theme or objective outside of the basic human relationships--like BSG's theme of survival, and all those cop shows solving mysteries. I enjoyed Gilmore Girls but it didn't interest me enough to keep watching, because there wasn't anything beyond the basic human interactions. TV is one form of escapism, and I want to be transported beyond what I can/might experience in my own life; that's why I read so many sci-fi & fantasy novels. I do read 'regular' books too, but the fantasy stuff is dominant in my reading list.
