L.A.W., Day 4: By Your Command

*coughs* stupid head cold

Pick any three Leoben-related things you like, give us links and tell why you like them. Fics, picspams, vids, meta, episode analysis... you choose. Three of one, one of each, whatever. It doesn't have to be from Leoben's POV, but he should be a main character. (If you feel it's necessary to warn for content or spoilers, pass that along... though caveat lector, anyone who clicks on a link should be responsible for checking warning labels.)

fic: Most of you have read this but If Wishes Were Cell Phones by [livejournal.com profile] doomcrayon is just hysterical. Spoilers for s2 and a really good guess for the identity of another cylon. Six and Leoben have a chat on the phone.

picspam: Yeah, I enjoy picspam but I don't usually rec it. But Kara and Leoben's First Date by [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_ still makes me laugh months after I first stumbled across it. (And the comments are funny, too.)

vid: Behind Blue Eyes is the first video I ever downloaded, and I've kept it ever since. Leoben-centered, clips from mini-series through 3.10.

Okay, your turn now!

FYI, for anyone looking for a Leoben reading list, [livejournal.com profile] lunar47 made a pretty comprehensive fic listing for Kara/Leoben stories. It has just about all the K/Leoben fics written up to that point. Also, [livejournal.com profile] daybreak777 made her own Kara/Leoben rec list here. (There's just not a whole lot of Leoben fic without Kara and not any lists that I've found so you'll have to dig for those on your own.)

eta: I have twenty-three fics tagged with Leoben's name on my del.icio.us page. Not at all a comprehensive list, just stuff I like.

Thanks for the recs. I will definitely check those out. I've actually never sampled any Leoben stuff. Shocking, huh? Among the more serious Leoben or Kara/Leoben stories, is there one (or two) you prefer? You can just give me the name, you don't have to go looking for links.

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2008-01-18 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have to look for links?! That's like dropping a gauntlet, or... something. (Eh, I don't mind making links, I like typing a href and other random letters and symbols. Heh.) Okay, 'serious' stuff, eh? No indulging in my not-very-secret love of Leoben in crackfic.

The Wide Expanses (http://sageness.livejournal.com/788363.html) by [livejournal.com profile] sageness is set during F&B, Leoben's POV.
Eleusis (http://mercurial-wit.livejournal.com/37616.html) by [livejournal.com profile] mercurial_wit (aka [livejournal.com profile] fahye) was written post-Maelstrom. This writer has caused some serious teeth-gnashing envy in me. I even liked a Doctor Who/SGA crossover she wrote, and I haven't even watched one of those two shows. (Oh! She wrote 'Benevolent Sibling,' which I'm sure you've seen. Hee!)

Look! I really did only two, as requested! That was hard.

Hah, I couldn't resist mentioning something else. If you read 'Eleusis' and enjoy it, you might want to read the author's commentary on it here (http://fahye.livejournal.com/480660.html). It's fascinating. And induces even more jealousy, because my brain has never, ever had that many thoughts about writing fic or made the connections she makes in hers.

The picspam was cute. I adore CKR.

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2008-01-18 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
CKR is always fun to watch; I'm actually watching some of Due South just because of him.

I'm dying. I'm really dying. *rofl*
I don't know the fic you recommented and now I've read this little version of cylon life and I go totally crazy about it! *lol*
(especially the term that the author do know that Anders is a cylon at this moment of the serie!!!)

Okay, I'm trying to go to my favorits.
fic: Pop goes the weasel (http://community.livejournal.com/bsg_women/90419.html). It was one of the first ff of BSG I've read and I really love it!

Behind blue eyes is one of my favrites too.

A year ago I found a really nice picture of Leoben/Kara/Kacey but my pc crashed and the pic or the link are gone...

Oh, I love Pop Goes the Weasel. It's an amazing story.

I'm dying. I'm really dying. *rofl*

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Anyone have another link for the Behind Blue Eyes vid? Its not available from any of those links and now I'm dying to view it :(

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2008-01-18 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
If you post a comment on the link page, the vidder will probably put it up again for you.

The megavideo link worked for me. But I reuploaded anyway, here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/qmxpn5

1. Fave Leoben Story
Dang, it's The Wide Expanses linked above. Totally shaped my view on Leoben. I'm not above making fic my personal canon. Since it's already linked, I also recommend its sequel, In Remembrance also by [livejournal.com profile] sageness.

2. Fave Leoben Vidder - dgmpepper
I particularly like this one. Ooh, it's shippier than I remember. *edits icon* But I like the lyrics and they fit in with Leoben's pov.

3. Meta
I tried to find more meta! I did try and fell asleep looking. How is there not more meta on Leoben? I did find this on Flesh and Bone, which I really do have to rewatch soon. Why isn't there more meta out there? And Rose, why aren't you mentioning your essay?

Oh, and I found this story, Voice of God. I'm not sure if it's on the recs above but it sure is interesting. Not my favorite yet, but now I'm trying to find stories of Leoben without Kara. Hard to find.

Oh, that video was weirdly compelling. Kind of like Leoben. I would never have thought that song would work, but it does.

Voice of God is definitely interesting, thanks for the rec.

I really liked that video you recommended. Thanks for the link.

[identity profile] daybreak777.livejournal.com 2008-03-11 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! It is one of my faves. I was just rewatching this one by the same vidder too. I'm sure you've seen it but these are like classics to me now.

I've just spent a few hours (where I should have been either replying to comments in my own journal or sleeping *s*) rereading old favourites and new-to-me fic. Thank you for all the recs, especially to fayhe's commentary on 'Eleusis', a story I love but I wasn't aware that she'd written a commentary.

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad the recs were enjoyable. 'Eleusis' blows my mind; Fayhe's such an incredible writer. I've loved all the BSG fic she's written. She also wrote the most amazing fic set after the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

When I was going through my bookmarks for fic with Leoben to contribute with here, all I came up with were fic by you, [livejournal.com profile] daybreak777 and Fayhe ([livejournal.com profile] mercurial_wit) and you sort of had that covered already *g*

And fayhe is indeed a phenomenally gifted writer.
