bsg this week
This episode was neither hugely thought-provoking with new information nor hammer-over-the-head bad. Here's my list of what I liked:
I saw a nice balance this week of personal and ship-wide stuff.
Mothers and fathers in peril make for good drama. Poor skinny little Cally must have been so cold! (I feel much empathy, 'cos I hate being cold)
Cally's appearance in the hyperbaric chamber was just about right. The red splotches in her eyes, the exhaustion. I loved the hands on the glass, but I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff on TV.
Cally/Tyrol made a nice foil to Papadama's angst over his failed marriage. It was a much better correspondence of story lines than 2 episodes ago when we had Baltar/the quadrangle. The editing in that episode seemed to insist on the parallel natures of their treasons, which I just didn't see. (being the tool of genocidal robots vs. stupidity in marriage--not much of a match)
Starbuck can't resist being a pain when things are going well, can she? She was sarcastic in the ready room, but completely professional in the raptor.
Speaking of pilots, I was both amused and touched by Cally's insistence about who would raise Nicholas. I appreciated her thoughtfulness about it in a tense situation.
I was pleased to see that Lee can at least mention the "hating Dad" phase to his father now without becoming Leemo.
This episode didn't advance us much with the bigger arc for the season (whatever that may be, heh), but it was enjoyable, especially for a stand-alone. BSG hasn't always shown skill with stand-alone episodes in the past. (I may be more willing to like this episode because of how much I hated the last one... hee!)

Very true. This episode flowed...easily. It didn't feel forced. I guess that's why, like you, I'm neither irritated with nor particularly compelled by it.
Also, yeah, Lee and Dee raising baby Nicky? BAD IDEA. Their marriage is far from stable, DUH, Tyrol. *g*

When Tyrol mentioned Lee and Dee as parents I wondered how much the cold and lack of oxygen was affecting his brain function, heh. Even though I'm not particularly fond of Cally I have to give her props for thinking straight.
I don't think I'll ever recover from Cally's shooting of Boomer--cylon or not, that was just a messed-up act. And then to go from beaten-up by Chief to having his baby in what, two episodes? Too bad, I enjoyed her character before all of that. Now she just strikes me as psychotic with a really good veneer most of the time.

I miss the days when she used to be one of the characters I most identified with, but I think those days are well and truly over.
