California dreamin' (on a Winter's day)
A real-life friend wants pictures of warm, sunny California. It wasn't all that warm during my trip there, since it was January, but chances are good that it was warmer than where she lives. So here's the first California picspam! This is all beach or ocean-related stuff.
Day 1: Oceanside, California. We stopped here for lunch and then hiked on the beach. Someidiots people were brave enough to go all the way in the waves without wetsuits.

We stayed on the dry sand, with a few brief forays into the shallow waves.

The air temperature was actually very comfortable. The water, not so much. Surfers were all wearing wetsuits.

I did my usual thing of collecting a couple of shells. The rocks were tempting too, but they're probably prettier on the beach than in my home.

These sandpipers were running up and down the beach, in and out of the waves.

Day 2 included a visit to some tide pools in San Diego. More surfers, this time with surfing dogs as well. (There are two dogs in this picture if you look closely.)

I was lying on my side to get this shot. I hope the world appreciates the great sacrifices I make for art. (heh)

Look! It's an anemone! Also some beach glass as well as pebbles.

This bird looks a bit grumpy. I would be too, if my feet were constantly in the cold water.

Another tidepool pic.

That evening we stopped by La Jolla's children's beach, which is currently occupied by adolescent seals and pregnant seals.

Our last full day there we took a whale-watching ride. We saw whales from a distance but never close enough to get a good picture. But these sea lions were politely posed on a buoy in the harbor, so here they are:

And lastly, the postcard shot. (It looks like one, doesn't it?) Still in San Diego harbor, just about to enter open waters.
