BSG reaction post (ever so reactionary, yes indeed)
This is inevitable, isn't it. Spoilers for episode 4.13 'The Oath.'
I was considering waiting and doing a thoughtful post, but after that episode, I have to get this part out of the way first. Maybe there will be something more analytical later. or maybe not. Dude. This was a total adrenaline rush.
jumping into reactions in totally random order:
OH LAIRD! I'M SORRY YOU GOT TAKEN DOWN IN MY BLOODTHIRSTY DESIRE TO SEE MORE GENDER EQUITY IN THE DEATHS ON BSG! (Though I never wrote him in fic, so I don't feel all that guilty. :-P )
Is Skulls going to live? 'Cause that kind of injury... it could go either way, depending on how soon he gets help.
Oh, Seelix. I'm really afraid for you. That was... bitchy yet understandable. And not very surprising, considering the role she played on New Caprica.
Caprica Six: please get some comfy flats. Those heels look a bit ridiculous. ;-)
That goodbye kiss is one of the few times I've totally been okay with the Roslin/Adama ship. Mostly because now there is ANGST as they get separated! (And we all know that ANGST is a great way to get me to like a couple.)
We all knew that Gaeta would be the Best Mutineer Ever. Indeed. Too bad he's so very efficient. :/
EVERYONE looked totally awesome holding their guns: Kara, Lee, Adama, Tigh... which is just weird, when you think about it. Guns = sexy on TV, but not so much in real life.
Speaking of which, HOW AWESOME WERE TIGH AND ADAMA RESCUING THEMSELVES?! So very awesome, that's how awesome.
Gaeta arrested Hoshi. Whoa.
Mah pretty pretty mens! They hit Sam and Helo! I actually shrieked out loud when Helo went down. They actually have me worried about Athena--which takes a lot, let me tell ya.
Racetrack! :/ I've written her, so she's totally on my potential death list (and Seelix too, FYI). Oh, Maggie, dear--I understand, really, but this is NOT a good idea. Mutiny never is. unless you're Leland Adama
Ha, a reason to appreciate Tyrol not being Nicky's dad: now he can go around and be totally efficient without me being panicky about who's taking care of his son.
Dear Connor: remember how this whole judgmental thing went before? Not well, Connor. Not well at all.
Gaius and Laura's conversation was fascinating. I love watching them onscreen together.
No need to comment here. Everyone else on Los Internets is making the same kind of WHEEEE/AAAUUUUGH posts right now. :-)

I know! Poor Laird, I would not have picked him as first against the wall after everything he's been through. Zarek can be next, though! Someone on my flist suggested that he killed Laird so that Gaeta would have no way out.
Oh, Seelix. I'm really afraid for you. That was... bitchy yet understandable. And not very surprising, considering the role she played on New Caprica.
I still love her - it IS understandable. We know Sam is a toaster with a heart of gold, but Seelix has seen the mass graves, as it were. I could have lived without the romantic betrayal element, even though I get that was mostly a front - the little bit of sincerity is so cliche and unfair to Seelix. But whatever.
unless you're Leland Adama
Heh. Too true. :/
Baltar actually confirmed that Conner didn't die, I believe - he said something like "a little less smiting next time unless you know how to dispose of a body."

Yeah, I have to handwave Diana's little speech, since her main job was simply to distract him while the others grabbed Anders from behind. And it's not like the show didn't go there before--there was an established flirtation back when Sam was grieving for Kara. And yes, Seelix has never loved the cylons. Just because all the Dylan four worked in the resistance doesn't mean they get a free pass. :(

Hee! It was! It was made of awesome!!!!!!!!!!
Aww, Laird. Say hello to Mathias. ;-)

In real life death is really, really real. In real life, Kara should be shuttering in a corner somewhere over maybe having to shoot her friends. (Except she kinda did her version of that last week.) But on TV it's not real and it's hardcore and people have all ARMS and stuff. ;-)
Mutiny never is. unless you're Leland Adama
Yep, and not even then. Dee got Adama to come around then, but she's dead now, you know?
Gaius and Laura's conversation was fascinating. I love watching them onscreen together.
I said it in my review. They are so siblings. I expect him to just pinch her once for the hell of it and she will slap the ego out of him for a moment. Hee! I like that he told her to stop kissing her boyfriend so he could get the car back before
the Cylon GodDad could ground them both. :-)WHEEEEEEEEEEE!

He worked so hard. *sniff* And so did she! (I wonder which side she would have been on during all of this?)

eta: I see her death as being a big catalyst for Gaeta making his movie, actually.

Hah, I just realized I typed 'movie' up there instead of 'move.' *snickers*
Anyway. Gaeta thinks he's calm and rational and intelligent. He is. Until he gets swept away by a powerful emotion. Neck-stabbing with a pen, remember that? And I think he acts under the assumption that he's still calm and rational, even when he's not. Dee's death was a HUGE blow to the rationality. It's only been, what... less than a week? I don't know if we have a timeline for all of this, but he's still in mourning.

Hee! As if I can forget! Yes, I remember. And yes, he's still in mourning and his leg is gone and Felix has enough reason to hate someone. But the Cylons like this?
(What do you think they intended the 'secret' to be if there were no webisodes? I'm so curious!)
As for underestimating people, well . . . When Laird went down he knew what Zarek was. Boy's eyes are open now. And he isn't flinching.
Rose, I fear this isn't going to end well for him. Or any of them, really. But I still think it's great for him to reach his badassery point. Even if it dooms him in the end.

You're a lot more sympathetic than me... I was going "GET IN THE FREAKING RAPTOR. We're already in this situation cause you both were too busy playing house to do your actual JOBS!"
I was not surprised by Seelix... but Racetrack? I thought she was loyal to the Old Man.

Hee!

That was before he made an alliance with the cylons. I think she put up with Athena, but joining up with all the rebel cylons was too much. :(
no Racetrack icon? How did I manage not to acquire one?

Not to mention, the last time he was all "I'm a bad-ass mofo getting my New Caprica Revenge on" he was beat down by a wee little girl.
<3s Tracey Anne.

except possibly he was permanently damaged by the smiting?
no subject
Agreed. I was just kind of mumbling out loud when I saw what she was doing in providing a distraction. Along the lines of "Oh no, Maggie. No. Maggie what are you doing? No no no no no."
no subject
It really isn't that big of a shock, though. Racetrack helped in the mutiny that got Laura Roslin out of the brig. She has no love for the cylons, like many other pilots. And the mutineers really do have a point--at least, some of them do. I think the remaining Sunshine Boy (Gage? I'm not sure of his name) is just ready for anything that makes him feel like he's getting payback for real and imagined slights.
I wonder if Hamish is going to live?

Eh, who needs thoughtful all of the time, I'm convinced that flailing and general incoherence are perfectly acceptable responses to last night's episode.;) But you do make good excited points.
We all knew that Gaeta would be the Best Mutineer Ever. Indeed. Too bad he's so very efficient. :/
Curse him and his competence! Most neatly executed mutiny ever, which I suppose is easy when you control all communications. He might have begun to realize that he really doesn't have a plan if they win now though :/
Yeah, Seelix didn't really surprise me there at all. She walked in and I was all, "Oh girl...no." Nicely done little scene, I thought. It was kind of a secondary character love-fest tonight. I had about 5 or 6 "Hey! It's that guy!" moments. And then they would die. :(
This was a total adrenaline rush.
That pretty much sums it up doesn't it? I might have clutched my roommate's arm in excitement a few times during the episode, and don't think commercials have been so hard to sit through in quite awhile.

Oh, yes. And what he's doing (and will have to do) is essentially what he's accusing the Admiral of doing--running roughshod over the will of a whole lot of people.
I had about 5 or 6 "Hey! It's that guy!" moments. And then they would die. :(
Hah. Yup.
I might have clutched my roommate's arm in excitement a few times during the episode, and don't think commercials have been so hard to sit through in quite awhile.
Watching through downloads means no commercials. Which means that by the end I felt incredibly jittery. Heh.
