new Doctor Who! I'm actually watching something from season five even as the season is on air!
I'm compiling some Kara/Sam fic recs. It's taking longer than I expected, in part because I keep re-reading. Maybe I'll break it into two posts.
Doctor Who stuff: I watched the first episode with Eleven. And AWWWWW, I liked it so much! It gets sparkly hearts and glitter text, but I don't know how to do that, so it's all theoretical.
Eleven: kind of cranky, though that could be the recent regeneration. Surprisingly undramatic, which is refreshing. Still into that whole "Trust me" thing even though he's apparently horribly unreliable for the "small" stuff. (Helping a little girl isn't actually small stuff, but he does still save the planet, so I guess I'll let it slide.)
I loved the testing of various phrases, and the worried admission that he has a face that no one will listen to, and the line about how about adults say everything will be fine. Oh, and the food scene was comic genius.
Amelia Pond: is an adorable, feisty seven-year-old Scottish lass who has a crack in the universe running through her wall and who prays to Santa Claus for help. She's pretty unflappable, which has a lot to do with what she's already experienced. I'm going to guess that the death of her parents will have more import later on. And augh, how much did it hurt to see her waiting in the garden for her raggedy Doctor to return?
Clever of the show to set us up with a new companion in this way. Who doesn't melt a bit when seeing her with the Doctor? It's a good set-up to avoiding new companion resentment. It's also been a while since the Doctor left Donna behind, too, so that helps.
Amy: grown-up Amelia isn't so grown-up, not really. Something isn't quite normal with her--not surprising, given what's happened, especially including her erstwhile "imaginary friend" (for whom she bit psychiatrists! Hee!). I'm intrigued by her. At this point I doubt I'll do the complete Martha-Jones-fanlove because I don't really identify with Amy, but she's interesting and there's a lot to play with in terms of what we know so far.
Speaking of that, though--I do worry about how the show will handle the possibilities of Amy and the Doctor as a sexual/romantic pair. I worry more about how fandom will handle it. *sigh* What concerns me is that Amy is both more and less attuned to who the Doctor is than your average person. She understands a lot about him due to her childhood experience, but she also has a bond to him that isn't rational at all, and that might cause problems later.
Okay, so maaaaaaybe I want an Eleven userpic.

Even though I love him, I almost hate him for that...

I think I might have felt even more upset than I did, but it was so clearly telegraphed to the audience that he wasn't actually coming straight back.
