A year ago I started a Tumblr for fannish stuff about Person of Interest. And now I think I'm gonna log out and stay away for a while, because Tumblr is making me a tired and cranky fan of the show. I hear that if you follow other people rather than going in the main tags, you can avoid the inevitable ridiculousness about ships (Mine's right! Yours is wrong!) and characters ("Let me tell in excruciating detail why I hate the character you love!"), but I don't think it's worth the trouble right now. Soooooo... stayed logged out for an indefinite period of time. Maybe for Lent? Hm, could be.

I gotta say, I wasn't even following a specific fandom really, at least not anything that was currently airing and regularly sparking all that much discussion or disagreement, and still my fannish life improved by a factor of 100 when I just stopped going to Tumblr cold turkey. I just don't go there at all now. Especially since I never could stop myself from checking the main tags for things. There is ALWAYS something that is terrible in the tags, and much of it is directed at female characters. I'm not sure how to feel about avoiding Tumblr making me fannishly happier, since Tumblr is apparently where fandom is going to be now. :/

Tumblr as a fandom-centered place makes me sad. I stopped having anything to do with fandom over there a while ago, deleted my BSG-centric blog, and am much happier following a tiny group of people and posting my own photos instead, once in a great while. It's less of a community, but it's a lot more sane. I hope you can find balance with it. :/

Sorry to hear about the bad times on tumblr. Sending hugs and cookies your way. I only go there for the Caviezel pictures, so I have no idea of the craziness in fandoms there.

Tumblr is only good as long as you can stay away emotionally and just enjoy the pretty (and skip the text). That's never been all that satisfying. I always wonder at people whose main fannish place is tumblr - I pity them, mostly.

But then, ship wars exist in any fandom and you can stumble over them on lj just as likely. *sigh* I tend to stay in my own little corner (since I almost never am in the main ship anyway). Unfortunately, that's not so easy on tumblr.

Oh well, fandom as a whole is kind of a sad place these days with all the splintering going on. Oh, maybe I should stop whining, so I don't come a cross as a total sad sack right from the start. ;)
