a poll

Instead of whining about popcorn fic, it's time for a poll.
[Poll #1853076]

Oops, somehow popcorn fic got in there anyway. But it wasn't whiny, so it's okay.

The very next movie in my Netflix queue? Inception. After I watch it, I'll post about it and Frequency, which I watched yesterday.

Ooh, bomb pops. I made them myself one July 4th. Those were awesome. :-)

And have I not pimped this movie enough?

:-)

You mean Muppet Treasure Island? ;-)

That userpic is really cute, so consider that another push for Brave. (And since I don't feel like driving 25 miles for a movie, I'm guessing Brave will win anyway. Unless I suddenly go for web-slinging superheroes. I'm just not sure I need another Peter Parker, though...)

[identity profile] daybreak777.livejournal.com 2012-07-11 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I have such a fangirl crush on Tobey's Peter Parker I can't imagine another Peter.

So yay, Brave wins!

*cheers*

I may well watch the new Spider-Man anyway, but not before Brave.

I'm still bewildered about why there needed to be a reboot to SM anyway. Maguire's first was in 2002, which isn't all that long ago. And while the third movie wasn't so great, the other two were quite well done. Hmph.

I want a Wonder Woman movie!!!

I want a Wonder Woman movie!!!

I've been waiting ALL my life for a Wonder Woman movie!

There are so many cool things they could do with one! (I'm guessing we're of an age; I can remember the TV series with Lynda Carter--did you watch it? I remember playing with my mother's copper cuff bracelets as if they were WW's magic bullet-deflecting bracelets.)

[identity profile] brickhousewench.livejournal.com 2012-07-13 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, I bought this on the Fourth of July. I found the picture in a bin of movie star photos. And I've been looking for a pair of bracelets ever since I found WW bracelets (that looked huge) on a comic book merchandise site.

Oooh, tangerine! Sounds delicious.

I liked your pocketwatch answer; made me smile.

And that reminds me that I haven't gotten back to you on the popcorn fic! :( But I did finish a draft of chapter 26 of TW today, so there's that?

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2012-07-11 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for draft of new chapter! That's great.

As for popcorn fic, if you haven't had a chance to look over the last draft I sent you, then I could send the newest version. (I'm still altering a few things in chapter two even as I work on chapter three.) If you've already looked over it, no worries. I haven't changed a whole lot in chapter two; mostly working on three (and needing a proper MacGuffin).

[identity profile] sabaceanbabe.livejournal.com 2012-07-11 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I came here to reply and got totally distracted by your icon. That is THE BEST "Keep Calm" icon I have EVER SEEN. :D

*ahem*

Anyway.... I think if you have changed a lot, since this isn't a real beta read, I'll just continue with the version I have.

What exactly is a "MacGuffin," anyway?

I know, I was rather tired of the "Keep Calm" meme, but this one made me laugh, so... (I credited the maker on the userpic page, so you can snag it and do the same, if you wish.)

MacGuffin! Alfred Hitchcock made the term popular. Here's what wikipedia had to say:
In fiction, a MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin or maguffin) is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object, or other motivator that the protagonist (and sometimes the antagonist) is willing to do and sacrifice almost anything to pursue, often with little or no narrative explanation as to why it is considered so desirable. A MacGuffin, therefore, functions merely as "a plot element that catches the viewers' attention or drives the plot of a work of fiction".[1] In fact, the specific nature of the MacGuffin may be ambiguous, undefined, generic, left open to interpretation or otherwise completely unimportant to the plot. Common examples are money, victory, glory, survival, a source of power, a potential threat, a mysterious but highly desired item or object, or simply something that is entirely unexplained.

[livejournal.com profile] raincitygirl actually put MacGuffin as her answer in the poll. I'm not quite sure the term fits perfectly, since I really only need a thingy/device/whatever for part of one chapter, but I think it's close enough.

The Holy Grail is a frequently used MacGuffin in movies.

I've not seen Brave, but I fancy it!

Everyone whose tastes I trust has liked it so far!

Y'know, after Iron Man 2, I was ready to ignore him completely. Thankfully The Avengers made me like him again.

Waiting for the Inception DVD to show up...

Aww, I'm weirdly surprised that coconut's got the most votes right now. *solidarity*

I'm hoping you'll tell me if I should make a drive to watch Beasts of the Southern Wild. ;) Brave's already in my plans for the weekend.

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2012-07-13 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, coconut!

Brave was good but not great. Very, very good, and I think you'd love the visual aspects.

I'm hoping you'll tell me if I should make a drive to watch Beasts of the Southern Wild. ;)

Hah! Though I suppose we could do a meet-up and watch it together, since it's not like it's playing in either of our respective towns... y'know, if you're looking for an excuse to watch it. (I have all the time in the world. I LOVE SUMMER. Although next week has been designated "visit family in nearby states" week; that's an actual schedule of sorts, I suppose.)

Unrelated to any of this: why are my userpics in totally random order as I try and select one?! WEIRD.

That's always the way with interesting movies, isn't it? And sure! May be the only way I make the effort to see it, heh. Though I will be going to run around southern New Mexico the week AFTER next so my schedule is vague, but definitely out of state then. Oh, summer. Completely free until I try to schedule anything during it. :)

[identity profile] rose-griffes.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, well, if it's still playing when we're both at our respective homes again, we can try and see it. I wonder if it's playing anywhere near my parents' home? Doubtful...
