road trip report!: New Mexico picspam #1
I really do need to write about road trip #1. It was my first visit to Louisiana. BUT... I'm feeling much more inspired by the trip to New Mexico. I've been there once before, several years ago. It's still beautiful. I don't mind living where there are no mountains, but I do appreciate seeing them when I have the chance. Plus the weather was fabulous, plus we had a bit more time there than in Louisiana, plus I took pictures to post. (Yay pictures!) So voila: New Mexico picspam part one
We drove straight to Albuquerque on Saturday. I stayed with a childhood friend, Paula and Michele stayed in a hotel. That long drive was fairly boring--not a shocker. We had fun because we're goofy idiots, but otherwise it was ordinary. Lots of flat land for the most part.
This trip was my first time to see some of the petroglyphs. Petroglyph National Monument has a couple of parks in Albuquerque. We went to the Boca Negra Canyon park. Nice small hike for an afternoon.

One fun thing we did was ride the tram that starts in east Albuquerque and goes up up up. From around 5000 feet to 10000 in about 15 minutes. Yes, there was snow. Yes I was cold despite my jacket. The view was spectular in all directions, though.
This picture was taken facing the valley east, shortly before sunset.

This was west, overlooking the Albuquerque valley, at sunset.

My shoe! I loved my turquoise shoes before this trip, but they turned out to be so awesome! I hiked over rocks and stuff and didn't slip! I ran around on the snow and didn't fall down!

We ended up in Santa Fe for a short amount of time, although it wasn't originally in our plans. This picture is inside the San Miguel mission, oldest church in the USA.

And this is the famous staircase of the Loretto church. The staircase is famous because it has two 360 degree turns with no visible means of support.

The church was built in the French Gothic style.

More pictures another day!
