salads and... Star Wars?

Twice in the last month or so I've mentioned jar salads--once here, once in the comments elsewhere--and people were intrigued! Excited! And other positive things! So: here's one guide explaining the basics. Read that, and then my own advice: make a salad to eat in your usual salad bowl at the same time as you make 2-3 salads in a jar. That way you can use the same amounts for your ingredients in the jars as you normally would in a bowl.

I often take jar salads to work, along with an empty plate or bowl big enough for serving. Keep it cool until mealtime, shake it well, and dump it in the serving dish. You can eat from the jar, but that gets messy.

A lot of the jar salad links show the jar absolutely packed with ingredients. Me, I leave some empty space at the top. I don't need that much food at lunchtime--I have less than 30 minutes to eat on workdays (when I'm actually, y'know, teaching instead of this haphazard and frustrating distance learning) and it's hard to get the salad dressing to coat the other ingredients if the jar is too full.

It's almost May the Fourth! So! I'm pleased for Clone Wars fans; I haven't watched the series myself but I see these fans SCREAMING on social media. It's fun! I'm glad they're enjoying seeing Anakin's fall and Order 66 from another perspective.

I may watch it at some point, now that I've been linked to this viewer guide.

Okay, now onto the film part of the franchise. First, the negative stuff. This music fan breaks down the problems with The Rise of Skywalker's soundtrack. (Spoiler: it's not John Williams' fault.) I don't agree with everything he critiques, but as he goes on to make his larger point, I found myself impressed by the depth of his reasoning.

His mention of figuring out that Disney-LucasFilm had no plan is in this video from December 2017:

(I mean... I knew there was no larger plan for the sequel trilogy because of the storytelling decisions in The Last Jedi but it's nice to feel validated by someone taking a different approach for his analysis.)

On a more positive note: John Boyega being interviewed in his home last week. The interviewer and Boyega are frank about some of the films' flaws while still staying upbeat about Star Wars as a whole. Boyega is clearly still a fan of the franchise as a whole.

Have you seen the "Danger Zone" video? I enjoy this song and whoa, the editing makes the most of it.

I watched that first vid - excellent meta and commentary! Also kinda hysterical to listen to his meltdown over the weird choices in this film.

I just bought the jars. Now let's see if I can actually be bothered to make salad to go with them. :D

Thanks so much for posting these videos! I finally got to watch them today and especially loved the one about the music. I was soooo disappointed with the soundtrack for TROS and this helps explain why. So much recycled music instead of letting John Williams tell the musical story he wanted to!

I would always buy music from Williams! Disney, I will give you money if you release this! :p
