Stop the presses, because it's picspam time.

We stayed in Afton, Wyoming for a few days. Its claim to fame--it's the hometown of Rulon Gardner, the Greco-Roman Olympic wrestling champion. (What, you never heard of him before?! Heh, I had, but that's because he's LDS too.) Afton is in Star Valley, which is south of Jackson Hole.

Afton has an arch across Main Street made of antlers.

Here's the informative sign about it:

I really wish I had a picture of our 'hotel'--it was a court of small log cabins--so cute and comfy and quiet.

Since Afton's in a valley in the Tetons it had some hiking trails nearby. We went down one trail for a mile or two during the day. The air was just a bit cool and there were low-lying clouds/fog in the mountains. Look at this gorgeous view!

The river here supplies the town water. It's temporarily rusty red because of the heavy rains earlier.

Interesting red berries.

"I ated the purple berries." (Name that quote, anyone?)

Another view of the creek and fog.

The flowers were so different from what we see in the low-lying southern states. Plus the wildflower season was peaking--we missed the roses (and strawberries) but saw lots of other flowers and ate wild raspberries.

I majored in geology for one semester. Rocks are fascinating to me. (Yeah, what major didn't I have while cramming four years of college into six years?)

More trees and fog!

And more wildflowers!

After finishing our hike we drove back into town. On the way we saw this deer.

And that's it. Hopefully the next picspam will be of our train ride in southern Colorado, with the bears!

Wow, it's so beautiful. And it looked like it was really peaceful.

And wow, what a lot of antlers!

Did Ralphie ate the the purple berries? Sounds like something he would do. And then he'd get stuck on the antlers. :-)

But really, it seems like it was a lovely trip. And yay, bears coming!

Hee! Yes, Ralph did ated the purpleberries. I'm so amused that you could guess by the line even though you didn't recall it specifically. And he definitely would get caught on the antlers.
