just passin' through
Hmm, real-life first. Back to work this week! It's been good so far. Unfortunately I have a conference to attend Friday. I'm *not* excited. Why is it that eighty ninety-five percent of all conferences and workshops have to be such a waste of time? I'll bring a notepad and try and get some writing done instead. (Plus, ugh. The conference continues on Saturday. *trying to plot a way to get out of the afternoon session*)
Speaking of writing, I'd like to think of a short story to write for Father's Day. Not a story about fathers, necessarily, just something my dad would like to read. He was so excited when I mentioned something about writing fiction that I was sorry to disappoint him about it being fanfiction. (Um, he didn't know what that was until I explained... since he doesn't watch BSG he doesn't have a reason to want to read.) Anyway, he's the only person who not only remembers that I used to write for fun way back when, but who actually remembers some of the stories I wrote then.
I don't know if I'll ever get around to posting anything on my own LJ about BSG the last two weeks. In case I don’t, here's where I commented about "The Son Also Rises."

I commented in several other places but I don't feel like rounding it all up right now. If anyone whose page got comments wants to be included in the list that interests only me, just let me know. Oh, and hooray for people who like to write longer, more-interesting things about BSG than me. All of you make my appreciation much greater forthe love of my life my favorite TV show. or maybe I should BLAME you all for keeping me hopelessly addicted
And surprise, having just finished watching Lost, I have stuff to say about it. Must write fast--it's past bedtime but since the switch to daylight-savings time I haven't been sleepy at the right hours.
Okay, I try not to swear. I just like using fancier words, heh. But "Lost" actually got me to shout damn! at the screen during Locke's fall. (Actually, since I'm a midwestern-southerner I said DAYUM.) I love how Locke is such a tool in his awesome Locke-ness. (Lochness, ha) And Ben! I was reminded of why I have a tiny crush on him. I just love devious shortish men on tv shows. He was so good and sly and EEEEEVIL. Most excellent. Too bad the show felt obliged to have him explain the reasons behind his manipulation, but at least they waited until the EEEEEVIL plot was already accomplished.
That guy who played Richard looked familiar. I'll have to see if I can find his name somewhere. It's really hard to tell, but he looked like Nestor Carbonell. (The satellite dish is gone, so fuzzy reception with rabbit-ear antenna makes it hard to get some details.)
It plays well to have Locke be such a fanatic about the island that he's willing to cut off a way of escape. First season he was ambiguous (evil? not evil?) and that worked well, but lately he's been less-interesting. I like Locke the island fanatic. Yay!
This episode is what is good about "Lost." The flashbacks didn't feel gratuitous or overly-long, they tied in much better to the main plot and we actually moved forward slightly. And Terry O'Quinn is marvelous.
