Maybe Elevensy and Amy need a userpic

Okay, taking a break from LJ isn't working so well. I blame Doctor Who. I still haven't watched any fanvids posted by you from the first ten or whatever days of July (or read fic from then, or much else), but I'm hunting non-spoilery (to me) DW vids anyway.

Allons-y! then.

Can You See the Lights, by [livejournal.com profile] fan_eunice. Focus on the Weeping Angels episodes. Bonus: the song used is by Butterfly Boucher. Also, it includes River Song. Heh.

I, also by [livejournal.com profile] fan_eunice. Focus on "Amy's Choice." Excellent song choice (Andrew Bird!) to highlight some of the more disturbing aspects of that episode.

half-life by [livejournal.com profile] big_n_happy. Spoilers for all series five episodes through "Amy's Choice." Must be a hell of a scary crack in your wall. *shivers*

Oh, "Vincent and the Doctor" is just a lovely episode. Other than Churchill in the Dalek episode this season, I have to say that the real people episodes have been a blast in new Who. Good monster in this one, with a nice tragic note for his end, plus Vincent Van Gogh! And having a moment of true happiness at his art being appreciated didn't make Van Gogh into a mentally well person, which I think is realistic.

Karen Gillan is really quite tall, isn't she? (And very ginger.)

No crack in the universe in this episode. Having just lost Rory to it in the last episode, I'm rather glad for a break. I have no doubt it'll be back.

I've been thinking about Rory's fate in "Cold Blood." Here's the thing: just like with "Maelstrom" in Battlestar Galactica, there are signs that this isn't the end of the character. The signs for Rory in Doctor Who aren't nearly as blatant as they were for Kara in BSG, but they're still there. So even though I was shocked and dismayed and kinda a sniffly mess, I'm reasonably sure that's not the real end for Rory.

I like Rory. He's an interesting addition to the season, because Amy doesn't really function as the spectator's voice in series five. She's too much a part of what's actually happening. Plus, I don't know about everyone else, but she's a bit too eccentric (broken?) for me to identify with her. I think she's interesting, but she still doesn't work as a stand-in for me.

All of the 'real' companions for the Doctor in new Who have been female so far. The men have been add-ons like Mickey and Captain Jack--and Rory. I wonder how deliberate that choice was? I'm not going to complain, however. Yay, Rose-Martha-Donna-Amy!

Eleven is so parental. It's really endearing, the mix of Matt Smith's young face and his Eleventh Doctor's hopeful-for-humanity-growing-up-right-someday attitude. I'd say more but it would probably result in flailing at that point.

Possibly I should avoid watching the remaining episodes of Doctor Who until August. The last episode won't be available through Amazon until... July 25? I think. Hm.
Really, LJ, stop luring me back in! July is vacation month!

On a totally unrelated note (other than general fannishness), look at this crotcheted Reepicheep! It is just awesome!

Karen's 5'9" iirc? So, yes. Very tall. and I love Matt's take on the Doctor, with how he sometimes seems so terribly ancient and old. And sometimes just a kid in a candy store.

Eleven is so awesome, yes! I flail all over him gladly. Especially because of all his companions this season, Amy and River and Rory. They all manage to share the stage without taking anyone's thunder.
