2020 is done, here comes 2021
TMFU exchange reveals: I wrote Waverly fic, and it's still in progress, although the stopping point isn't exactly a dramatic cliffhanger. So frustrating when writing inspiration doesn't cooperate with, er, deadlines and so forth.
I made waffles this morning, having been gifted with a waffle maker for Christmas. Tasty!
Fandom meme thingy for 2020--let's do the post-mortem!
Your main fandom of the year:
None, really. I still have a fondness for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015), but that has waned. A lot. I watched several shows, a few movies, read some books... Nothing struck me in THAT way, where I was compelled to read or write fic. Although I did read a bit, mostly for The Witcher and The Old Guard, and mostly thanks to recs from people like you.
Honestly? My mental energy and focus went first to the pandemic, then to the protests, and finally to the U.S. elections. Trouble-shooting misinformation on Facebook, trying to stay informed for my own sake, unable to look away because of the ongoing disaster of our current president's choices...
Oh! Also, the garden took up more time this year. I'm getting better at it! I had more than just two tomatoes this year! I also harvested some cucumbers! And the blackberry patch is getting more prolific. Even a few zucchini! Also, the ONE LONE POTATO story which still makes me laugh. (I don't recall if I wrote it here or not.)
Your favorite film watched this year
Definitely the filmed stage production of Hamilton - well worth paying for a month of Disney+ to watch. Also, The Old Guard was fun, and it's an excellent set-up for sequels and fanfic.
Your favorite book read this year:
Meagan Spooner's Sherwood wins top honors. Also-rans: Robin LaFever's final two books in her assassin death-nuns in Brittan series. Seanan McGuire's latest installment in her InCryptid series. Sabaa Tahir's Ember in the Ashes series--although I haven't read the final book yet, which came out last month. Helene Wecker’s The Golem and the Jinni for being memorable and original.
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year
Didn't listen to much. But easily the most-listened to by me was Dimash Kudaibergen's amazing vocals on "Sinful Passion".
Your favorite TV show of the year:
Excellent finish for The Good Place, even if it had some missteps along the way. The Witcher's first season was fantastic, also with some flaws. But given that I've watched both of those shows twice now, the flaws are outweighed by the things I like. Also, The Witcher improves with a second viewing, in my opinion.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year:
Can I claim the Star Wars sequel trilogy for another year? This would be year three? Ever since The Last Jedi led to a clear realization that nobody had a plan for these movies and that the potential would be thoroughly squandered.
(I was thinking over it, and the sequel trilogy is unequaled in my own fannish experience for the exodus of fans of color after The Last Jedi. I've seen fans leave various fandoms before, but nothing like the first few months after TLJ, when fans of color that I followed on tumblr just left the platform entirely, or completely dropped Star Wars as a fandom.)
A mild disappointment by comparison: season four of The Expanse went in a direction that I didn't enjoy, so I never finished it. I may read a summary of it and try season five, given that I do like most of the characters. (One part of the s4 disappointment: everything about the storyline involving Burn Gornam. But I'm guessing he dies in season four, because he's that kind of character. Or that they leave him behind.)
Your biggest squee moment of the year:
That initial high after reading Spooner's Sherwood. Hard to maintain it with no fanfic to read, but it really hit the right notes for me. Also, Hamilton. Also also, discovering Kazakh singer Dimash.
The most missed of your old fandoms:
Right now I miss the fun of shared interest in a show. That's hard to bring about with entire seasons available at once on streaming platforms.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to:
Um... I'm not really interested in the fandom, but I'll be watching season two of The Mandalorian soon. Assuming it doesn't annoy me partway through like season one did... And I'll probably give WW84 a shot sometime in the next month.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year:
I don't know when season two of The Witcher will be available (they halted filming recently-ish due to a crew member testing positive for COVID-19), but if it's this year, then that's my current "most anticipated" thing.

I'm so with you on this. I loved STAR WARS so much. I was so excited for the new trilogy. But the moment they killed Han, they lost me. And the lack of a plan and complete disrespect for the original characters/themes means that the sequel trilogy are such a disappointment rather than anything I can truly love.

At least I got to "meet" John Boyega. Attack the Block is worth watching for his work when he was younger, and I'm hoping for good things to come.

YES! The way cdrama solves it is with group watchalongs, where we (re)watch an ep a week together. Some people have seen it, some are watching it for the first time. Not ideal, but at least we get to talk about it in a time-stretched fashion.
(Although cdrama actually still does weekly releases for most of its dramas, so it's not even the same case, humm.)
