ginger-mania
I never have had a thing for red-heads. First crush: blond boy with green eyes. Second: blond boy, blue eyes. Eventually I moved on to dark-haired men as well, but redheads? I can't think of any, from real life or celebrity crushes. That has apparently changed. I blame Damian Lewis.
This is Damian Lewis.

He's British. He's been in... stuff. Stuff I've never watched (Band of Brothers, The Forsyte Saga). I know nothing about him, but I think I could develop a massive crush on the character he plays on NBC's Life.
'Life' isn't the best cop show ever, but for a new show, it's not doing too badly. Lewis plays Charlie Crews, a cop who was convicted of murder. He served twelve years of his sentence before he was freed, exonerated and given a hefty settlement and a job as a detective in the LAPD. The dialogue is pretty good, and Crews and his partner Dani Reese (played by Sarah Shahi) have a nice chemistry so far.
Crews and Reese

I knew the basics of the show's premise before the first episode, so I was surprised at how Crews was portrayed. Instead of a gruff, cynical character, Crews has a very open outlook, with "zen-ish" traits, a prison-gang style of justice and a quick assessment of character.

What else? The word 'quirky' has been used a lot in describing Crews. I'm not sure that's the right fit, but I can't think of a better word.
In addition to the plot of the week, Crews is working to find out why he was framed for murder. Here's the wall o' suspicion in his home.

Also, Crews has an old prison buddy in charge of his money... which is an unusual choice, considering the man was convicted of embezzlement. Heh. He's played by the always-reliable Adam Arkin.

It's stunning that I have an interest in a cop show featuring a quirky male partnered with a pragmatic female. So original of me. *g* Ah well.
eta: I don't think I would feel compelled to post pictures of Damian Lewis except that he has that onscreen charisma--it's not really appearance as much as it is magnetism. So if you're looking at these pictures thinking "huh?"--that would've been my reaction before the first couple of episodes of 'Life.'
And... that's about it. Except one more pic of Damian Lewis, just for the heck of it.

Wednesday nights. NBC. I'll be watching online the next day. Or maybe I'll buy the season pass through Amazon Unbox. I'm actually tempted by that.

Plus, the phrase "ginger ninja" in that icon is made of win!

Yes, I love my new icon! (trying to resist temptation to buy more icon space) After the show's inevitable cancellation (because I like it, so it's doomed), I'll delete the icon I'm using here, but I must keep the ginger ninja. It makes me smile.

Didn't know he was on US TV now. Maybe the show will make it over to the UK at some point.

Heh, the Forsyte Saga sounds like exactly my type of show. May have to add that to my list of DVD's to rent.

You hit the nail on the head, girlfriend!
Re: You hit the nail on the head, girlfriend!
Thanks for the tip about the yahoo group. People on livejournal have already set up some online communities related to his show:

I got transfixed by the show and I don't know if it was him or the woman playing his partner but I watched it to the end. But I don't need to try to watch three shows on Wednesday night! And then what happens when Lost returns???

I KNOW, I wondered if the casting director was trying to overwhelm us with all the red-headed pretty on the screen. The woman was doing a guest appearance, though, so I suppose it won't be happening again soon.

Yeah, I really love my ginger ninja so far, but his partner is definitely holding her own. Which is a good thing, I'd hate to be watching a lame show just for the pretty. Not that I haven't done so in the past. *g*

Heh, reading your comment makes me realize how quickly I adjusted to life with TV through the computer, rather than live. CBS and ABC are reasonably clear with an antenna for reception but no NBC or anything else. Lost will be the only show that I can actually see through a TV signal. (I catch the occasional episodes of CSI live as well, but since NBC now has all three of the shows I watch faithfully--Chuck, Life and 30 Rock--I just watch online. One of the side-effects of living just a bit too far away from the big city--crummy TV reception if you're not willing to pay for cable or dish.)
