I bought a shiny, BIG new knife the other day. Chopping vegetables was fun! WHEEEEE!

I believe that you should all refer to me as [livejournal.com profile] rose_griffes now. Or how about [livejournal.com profile] rose_griffes

I have Battlestar Galactica episode insert fic started that's just not going to be done before the next episode. (Helo: why so untalkative right now?) So now I'm hoping that the next episode jumps ahead a week or more, and that there are few or no explanations for all that Helo-related stuff. That way I can go ahead and finish my fic!
*hopes*

Oh. Probably time to see if those vegetables I chopped are actually done cooking now. Then dinner. Then grading papers. My life is apparently so exciting that chopping vegetables is a highlight. Heh.

PS: will watch Lost tomorrow...

eta: THIS SOUP IS DELICIOUS! It has Cajun boudin in it instead of Italian sausage.

You're the only person on my LJ reading list who posts about it! So it's great that you post a lot! (I'm actually behind right now... two whole episodes.)

Or NBC.com! According to some people I've heard Nielsen's count the NBC.com streaming... although it's possible Hulu numbers goes directly to the networks.

Oops. I do actually have a couple of other people on my reading list who talk about Life. But I think [livejournal.com profile] grimorie still wins a prize. : )

[livejournal.com profile] emmiere is amused.

Hey, my delicious veggie sandwich and soup dinner was highly exciting to me, so who am I to judge? Mhmmm, soup.

I'm not much of a soup fan most of the time, so this soup is, uh, super good!

Methinks Helo is a little bit depressed right now. Maybe he'll be more talkative after he's re-re-re-kidnapped his daughter. And when his wife stops hitting him and all the other Eights stop glaring at him. Except for that one Eight who's not really up for glaring at anybody because of the concussion and head wound.

And yes, all of the above are a matter of "when" rather than "if". ALL of them. Just so we're clear. Hera (whoever's playing her next week) will come home, and Mommy and Daddy will be fine, and Cavil will put Auntie Boomer out an airlock before Ellen swirls his ass dead, and the survivors will find a nice, non-nuked planet to settle down on and make some siblings for their creepy robot baby.

I like 'when' rather than if. Even if baby Hera comes home as dark-haired Shirley Temple again.

Mommy and Daddy will be fine, and Cavil will put Auntie Boomer out an airlock before Ellen swirls his ass dead, and the survivors will find a nice, non-nuked planet to settle down on and make some siblings for their creepy robot baby.

Hee! Good plan! Especially swirling Cavil to death. (Though I'm a little sad about Boomer... not that she doesn't deserve it, but... apparently my sympathy for sad robot girls doesn't have an off switch anymore.)

I'm still kinda sorta hoping for a last-minute redemptive moment, you know, maybe dying to protect someone as opposed to dying because Cavil ran out of use for her or she ran into one of the people she's frakked over (does she not realise what Athena did to Natalie just for TALKING to Hera? For actually kidnapping her, she's going to pick a considerably more painful murder method). I am resigned to her not surviving, though. I was still hoping for a redemption arc right up until kiddie inna box! And now I'm sad for her but also desirous of slapping some senses into her because yes, she's had terrible, terrible things happen to her, but for frak's sake she is consistently upping the ante and making things EVEN WORSE. It is not possible to get forgiveness from people who've wronged you when you keep taking revenge on them. And it's not like she's even HAPPY. Also, tunnel vision because Tyrol finally did forgive her, and took one hell of a risk to spring her, and what did she immediately do? Something he'll never forgive her for. Just think! I'm sad for her but also pissed at her at the same time.

As for Shirley Temple, I wouldn't mind the fact that the new kid: a) appears about 5 years old rather than about 3, and b) Has a truly horrific wig, if it weren't for c) she's Caucasian. Hello, child who is supposed to be plausible as the offspring of an Asian-looking character played by an actor of Korean descent and a white-looking character played by a mixed-race actor who can easily pass for white.

Athena being Hera's biological mother is kind of a key point, so maybe they could cast a child who looks like she could possibly be related to Athena. This is Vancouver, for frak's sake. I see half-Asian children almost every day just within in my neighbourhood, and my neighbourhood's ethnic distribution is pretty typical of the whole city's demographics. If I saw Grace Park with Hera #3 on the street and had no context except visuals, I'd probably assume Park was the kid's nanny. Which may be a racist assumption, but in Vancouver neighbourhoods significantly richer than mine, the very posh streets are crawling with Asian women (mostly Filipina) pushing white kids in strollers, and I don't think I've ever come across a situation where the woman DIDN'T turn out to be the nanny.

Where was I? Oh yeah. I admit that the kid is cute, but she's too big for the age she's playing, and she's the wrong ethnicity. And while they can fix the awful Shirley Temple wig, they can't shrink her or change her epicanthic folds. If it was just a size thing, I guess I could fanwank it as pop tarts shooting up because of the amazing nutritional qualities of algae. But how hard would it be to cast a kid who looks like the possible offspring of Helo and Athena? They managed it the first AND second times they cast the role. I mean, Hera #1 was a gloomy kid, but at least she looked the part. And Hera #2 was a lovely mixture of adorable and creepy, as well as being age appropriate and looks-appropriate.

Yeah, genetic variety is interesting, but unlikely to be quite this varied. Heh. And yes, the first two Heras did have a lot more of the right qualities. This Hera just looks like Snow White--cute, but not the child of these two parents. Not to mention the too big/told old aspects that you already pointed out. (Algae really must be an excellent source of nutrition. ;-))

I was going to mention that poor Helo's a bit depressed right now, but I see RCG has it covered. Heh.

Yes, Karl is definitely in a bad place right now. I think it has more to do with me as a fanfic writer, though. I haven't written a fic with his POV in over two years. (I'm out of practice!)

Plus I just don't write that fast in the first place. Now I'm just in a holding pattern until I see what the next episode reveals.
