Yay, fun weekend! I'm behind on nearly everything now, but I enjoyed it. Oh, and I finally saw The Hunger Games, which was very well done.

It's a bad idea to take a look at Tumblr when you're behind on TV shows. Alas, I'm not going to catch up today, since, uh... I haven't done my taxes yet. So: five more minutes and then time to figure out how small my refund will be this year. (Unless I finish those tax forms a lot faster than I think I will, the last Ultraviolet recap won't be posted until tomorrow.)

Hey, Battlestar Galactica fans, we've started posting remix stories at BSG remix, so go read and comment.

Eh, as long as I'm here I'll repost something I put on Tumblr the other day. Person of Interest, spoiler for 1.08 'Foe' and one small casting spoiler for 1.20 )

The remix reveal list is up! I wrote two stories this time.

1) Written in the Bone was a remix of a story by [livejournal.com profile] deborah_judge. yay, writing thoughts! )

2) Follow Home is a remix of a story by [livejournal.com profile] sabaceanbabe, who wrote one of my remixes. How did that happen? )

Anyway, I had a great time as always, even though I don't get to play the "Who wrote what?" guessing games. Thanks for participating, everyone! Now go read and leave feedback!

The lettuce has sprouted and is growing well! I need to thin it some. The cucumber and squash seeds have sprouted! The tomato plants... aren't doing so well. I don't know if I'm under-watering or over-watering, but the leaves are turning yellow and black. No sign of activity where I planted the strawberries, alas. (As long as the cucumbers do okay, I'll be happy. I love eating garden-grown cucumbers, especially cut into thin slices and soaked in vinegar and herbs. YUM.)

(Any food production from the garden will be an improvement over last year, my first real attempt at gardening on my own. Not so successful, the summer of 2010.)

Moving on to other topics. The SCC episode 1.09 recap is up. I don't know how Emmiere makes her screencaps look soooo pretty, but I definitely enjoy it. Also, EEEEEE! The season one finale is such a favorite of mine. Ellison! John and Derek at the park watching baseball! That amazing, horrifying scene at Cromartie's apartment complex! And did I mention Ellison?!

I am the specialest snowflake ever, which is why I get two fics remixed. Okay, actually it's because my original remixer was late turning in a remix, so lls_mutant assigned a pinch-hitter, and then I ended up with both stories, whee! This happened last year as well, only not to me. And the year before that someone voluntarily remixed two stories for her recipient.

Anyway, This Temporary Life is a remix of one of my earliest fics. (Baby fanficcer me!) It's all about PILOTS! Okay, not pilots as in Kara/Lee; pilots like Helo, Racetrack and Kat. Kat's POV during "The Passage," to be more specific. Better have a tissue on hand when you read.

My LJ account has expired. I need to renew it; in the meantime I only have 15 userpics! *sobs* YES, MY LIFE IS FULL OF TRAGEDY AND WOE.

I say this every year, but it's going to be so obvious which bsg_remix story is mine. The more I wrote (finished a second draft last night) the more all of the themes I love kept popping out. It's sort of embarrassing, actually. I should write a post about id-fic and WHAT THE HECK DOES IT SAY ABOUT MY ID when I keep writing [theme redacted for an attempt at secrecy] over and over again.

(Handy part about being a mod: giving myself a deadline extension.)

I have some fun links:

Here's a trailer for a Harry Potter TV show The Aurors. I wish this weren't an April Fools joke, 'cause I would watch this.

The Bronx Zoo cobra has been recovered.. Too bad--I was rather enjoying her tweets as she was out and about NYC. My favorite tweet: Enjoying a cupcake @magnoliabakery. This is going straight to my hips. Oh, wait. I don't have hips. Yesss! Heeeeee!

Dear Wonder-Woman: YOU Will Get Arrested If You Fight Crime in That Top.

This weekend is my church's General Conference, which is what I'll be watching in a bit, sitting comfortably on the futon, instead of going to church. I love General Conference. (For many reasons, not just couch-sitting instead of pew-sitting twice a year, but hey--that part is pretty awesome too.)

To wrap up this post: I started watching Wall-E recently and I got so depressed after fifteen minutes that I turned it off. Yet people keep telling me how awesome it is. Will it be awesome enough to clear away the CLOUD OF DOOM AND DEPRESSION induced by the first fifteen minutes? Will I cry and resent all of you who loved it if I finish watching it? (Personal resentment! I'll hold a grudge, I'm warning you now!) heh

The third BSG remix is open for sign-ups! So exciting!

If you've been thinking about trying it, please do! It's a safe zone, just BSG writers here and you can decide on your own comfort zone: write what you know or try something completely different. lls_mutant and I make assignments based on your preferences.

Plus someone will remix your fic. It's fascinating to see what happens when your ideas are viewed through someone else's eyes. (I've gotten fic about a minor character I liked and shippy Kara/Sam fic from other people's remixes of my stories. Basically I view it as a TOTAL WIN!)

I'm already peeking at various master fic posts to see what might be fun to remix this time. Good thing there are two of us and I can't really abuse my great powers as co-moderator all that much.

Hey, fanfic writers! The next round of BSG remix is coming up soon! We'll probably open sign-ups by the end of the week. More details soon. We steal borrow a lot of the rules from the multifandom remix challenge, but it's just for BSG writers here. (That's inside the comfort zone; I don't know about you, but that's great for me.)

Having written appreciation posts for more than thirty favorite female characters, I declare that particular challenge done for now. Here's a list with links to all my posts: cut for length )

I'm thinking about starting a livejournal community that takes some of the ideas from both Wardrobe Refashion and The Great American Apparel Diet. Both are sites that encourage people to purchase less new clothing. Participants pledge to go without new clothing purchases for a specified amount of time. Both allow people to post about how they're accomplishing this.

I'll post here when I've had time to plan it a bit more. Current goal(ish): have a community ready within a week, so if anyone else wants to join up then, we can aim for a start date of September 1st. (People would be able to sign up at any time, and for any chosen amount of time. I don't have any desire to be strict about this, but starting at the beginning of a month seems easier. Also, theoretically we in the US should have most of the back-to-school shopping done.)

a few more thoughts )

Name thoughts: clothes_horse. Okay, that name probably works only for me, because of a funny family story about the term. clothes_fast, because we're fasting (abstaining) from buying new clothes. clothes_diet or wardrobe_diet. Hm...

Any thoughts, anyone else? Comments are hidden, so if you're feeling shy, no one else will know that you commented.

We've posted the list of authors from our most recent remix challenge. If you haven't already, you should read some of the stories. I still love the remix of one of my stories, which took a short Kara/Sam ficlet and made it into a fantastic reflection of their relationship (and how Zak still haunts Kara) in the early days on New Caprica. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] ivanolix!

I wrote Undiscovered Country, a brief glimpse of an interaction between Laura Roslin and a Two. It was fun to write. [livejournal.com profile] grav_ity had such great dialogue for those two that my only real 'problem' was making sure I kept the story itself different enough to be a remix. And I know, who could ever have guessed that I'd choose to remix a story with a Two?! Shocking. (Well, apparently it was harder to guess than I thought. The only person to whom I owe a ficlet is [livejournal.com profile] daybreak777, who acted as my trusty beta-reader.)

I went for a walk around the neighborhood this evening at almost normal speed! Wooohoo! (I haven't mentioned it outside of friendslock before, but in mid-March I somehow did some damage to my piriformis muscle, which in turned made the sciatic nerve all... wonky. Fun times! For example, it hurt to sit, stand, lie down, walk, sing and cough.) Anyway, I took a walk! Around the neighborhood! Like a nearly normal person! As normal as I get, anyway. I'm still recovering--many chairs are just BAD right now, and there are other lingering effects--but it's soooo much better.

Thankfully [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant is organized and talented, and kept the [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix running smoothly even when I was mostly out of commission.

Speaking of that, 1) nobody has correctly guessed yet which story I wrote?! That's surprising. And 2) I should stop posting and go back to coding the list of who wrote what this time around.

No new Lost this week, alas. There goes one excuse not to do coding. Ooh, maybe 30 Rock has a new episode on Hulu!

I believe we've gotten the last of the stories posted at [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix. So go read them! Lots of fabulous stories to be found. There's romance, murder and mayhem, princesses, comedy...

We'll put up a 'reveal the authors' post later this week.

First three people to correctly identify which story I wrote can have a ficlet if they wish. (Yeah, I'm limiting it to just the first three, otherwise I could be writing a lot of ficlets. Heh.) Comments are screened. Oh, and my beta-reader can have a ficlet too, just so it's fair.

Stories are being posted at [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix! A remix of one of my stories is already up and I love it! Go read and give feedback!

(Possibly I should follow my own advice and leave some feedback now. Heh.)

I watched this week's Lost tonight and maybe I have a few thoughts? )

[livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant and I already sent out the [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix assignments! We are awesome!
It's going to be so obvious what story I eventually write. There may as well be a neon sign above it: "This remix is by [livejournal.com profile] rose_griffes."

It's time! The Battlestar Galactica fanfiction remix challenge is live! Information and sign-ups here. Come join the fun!

Last year's remixed fics are all listed here, for those who would like to see examples of the fabulous stories that came out of last year's challenge.

We may be asking some of you to link the challenge to fanfic comms, since [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant and I don't have every single BSG fanfic comm friended. (Shocking, I know.)

The remix list is now available! Find out how many of your guesses were right.

For some reason--I can't imagine why--people kept guessing correctly on [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant's story. *g* I did see one correct guess for [livejournal.com profile] prolix_allie's story. (It is a totally amazing story about Tory that fits into the "I didn't know I needed that" category. You should read it if you haven't already.) Good guessing, [livejournal.com profile] emmiere!

Mine was Parallels (End of Line remix), for [livejournal.com profile] scifiaddict86.

We've posted all of the stories to [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix. I finally got to read the remix of one of my stories. Yay, Racetrack! I love her! (Yes, I know I always say that about almost every character, but it's true!)

If you don't know which story I wrote already (a few of you had reasons to know), feel free to post a guess in the comments. I'll write you a ficlet if you're the first person to get it right. Hint: I have written the POV character before. (Comments are screened for guessing purposes.)

Oh, and if you participated in some way in the remix challenge, feel free to snag a remix icon, made by the artistic [livejournal.com profile] emmiere.

First, let me announce: we're posting fics at the [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix comm! The current plan is to post three each day, then reveal who the remixers were after we're done posting all of the stories.

Related to last night's post, I thought this was an excellent summary of the fail in many of the arguments used for not including warnings on fanfiction.

Moving on... Happy Canada day to those who celebrate it!

Time for some letters.

I'm going to ignore the headache and other aches for a moment.

1) We could use some beta-readers to help with the [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix. The volunteer post is here. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that my co-mod, [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant, wouldn't mind if you signed up to beta-read even if you're not participating in the remix. *g*

2) Links! vid recs and more )

[livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant and I sent out all the BSG fic remix assignments! Ahead of schedule, even. Yay us!

Have I mentioned I like Netflix? I really, really do. Last night I finished season one of Veronica Mars on DVD. Tonight I watched one of the BBC's Shakespeare Retold productions through livestreaming. It was 'Taming of the Shrew.' I still have some problems with the play itself, even an updated modern version, but watching Shirley Henderson (best known as Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter movies) play the shrew was great fun. Saying that she and Rufus Sewell have sexual chemistry is an understatement. (Possibly I have a weakness for ill-matched couples who yell at each other a lot... um, yeah.)

That's about it. Carry on, everyone!
I have to do work stuff now. *sigh*

Don't forget to sign up for the Battlestar Galactica remix challenge hosted at [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix. You can sign up through April 20. (Uh, that would be tomorrow. Hurry up!)

Okay, now that the main reason for a post is done, have some thoughts about writing 'Settlement.' (I'm sure it will be riveting! for at least two of you! Heh.)
same warnings for this as for the fic--in other words, this is about me killing (fictional) babies )

Theoretically I should be asleep right now. But I made the mistake of watching 'just one' episode of Lost after youth group at church tonight and, uh... then I had to watch the other one that was available online. (Fic of Doom is needing to simmer anyway*.)
*over 6000 words, still going... and going

Haven't seen today's episode yet. I'll be watching it tomorrow. I just have to say, though: circular time-travel mind-bendy stuff that includes actual discussion of the circular time-travel mind-bendy stuff is totally awesome. Woohoo!

And then I got the excellent news that [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix is a go! Expect posts about it in LJ comms over the next few days. In fact, I may ask some of you to help me spread the word to comms that you're linked to and I'm not. (Because I'm sadly lacking in posting rights to any and all Kara/Lee comms, for example. Same with Roslin/Adama and a lot of the character-specific comms and so forth.)

Here's what we're posting everywhere in a haphazard way:
the same text you're hopefully going to see/share on BSG LJ comms everywhere! )

Details and sign-up here. You have until April 20 to decide to join in!
