Remix Revival fics are live. Someone remixed my old Mickey Smith fic from ten years ago--it's a sweet tribute to Mickey and to past Mickey x Rose and present/future Mickey x Martha. The nostalgia factor! The Mickey Smith love! I should re-up my paid account here so I can access my Mickey userpic...

It's funny: the fic I remixed is also about ten years old, at least according to its post date on AO3. (Given some other factors, I'd guess that the original story is older than that. AO3 has only been around for ten years, for one thing.) Fandom and fanwork as yet undisclosed. I will say that my remix story is the only one posted in that fandom this year, but that's not much of a hint; the remix crowd is only in the seventies this year and a lot of fandoms have one unique remix offering.

It was a stretch, trying to remix a fanfic and still do, well, everything else. I'm overdue to tackle Mount Clean Laundry, for instance.

A few weeks ago I fell into a YouTube rabbit hole and ended up watching a video about opulence--and getting a helpful explanation about one aspect of Donald Trump's appeal. (Basically, by indulging in opulence / acting like the nouveau riche rather than behaving as an heir to wealth, Trump is more relatable to some in his audience.) Anyway, the whole video is a wild journey with YouTuber Natalie Wynn, aka ContraPoints. I've only recently discovered her channel. Language warning for her vids--I wouldn't play them aloud at work. Also, Wynn delves a bit into her own journey as a trans woman, so it could be a sensitive topic for some. Finally, this video is a year old, so a few of the people she name-checks have acquired various scandals in the meantime.

The garden! I collected some tomato seeds from some tasty cherry tomatoes and I actually have baby plants! The race is on: will I get tomatoes from them before it gets too cold for tomato plants to be productive? As for non-food plants, last weekend I moved some irises from one side of the flower bed to the expanded edge; this weekend I plan to add some daffodil, crocus, and iris bulbs in the rest of the expansion.

(It's allergies. Ugh.)

Hey, they're doing another Man from U.N.C.L.E. fanfic exchange. Just thought I'd mention it in case any of y'all wanna sign up for it with me. 😄

Still working on my remix fic. I posted a draft before the deadline but since there's a few more days before reveals, I'm going back and polishing things.

Hey, there's a thing: [community profile] femmeremix. Right now is the time to comment/participate in the survey to try and get the fandoms in which you qualify on the final list. Sign-ups later.

In other words, any of you who write fic and read my journal should probably mosey over there. Remix challenge! Specifically about women characters! Woohoo!

[livejournal.com profile] sabaceanbabe recently made this post with a list of what she viewed as her best works in fic-writing. It was interesting, the trends I spotted in her favorite stories that match trends in mine as well, such as lots of minor characters getting major roles in fic. That and not usually writing fandom's preferred pairing, whatever pair that may be. I was already inclined in that direction, but S'babe's stories were an influence in those earliest months.

So since I started off following her, I decided to make a similar post with stories I've written. some of my favorite fanfics back here )

Seven years of fic-writing summed up there. I still wish I wrote faster; stories that are started and done within two days are emphatically the exception.

I haven't been in much of a fic-reading mood lately, at least not for Battlestar Galactica--unfortunate, because I know there are [profile] bsg_bigbang fics to read.

What I really want to read right now is sappy Martha/Mickey babyfic. Yeah... to the point that I might have to write it myself. Good thing I'm my own best audience, considering that other people don't seem to be craving that story. (Seriously. I haven't found any fics with that pair and babies. Actually, there's a dearth of fics for that pair even minus babies. *sigh*)

Um. On to other topics. I was interested in reactions to that female characters flowchart. [personal profile] pellucid had some great commentary on how the idea didn't work as intended. But it did remind me that I've been meaning to make some posts about female characters I love. So without further ado, here's the first post for my own version of a thirty-day meme. This has no particular order, other than the first character being one I've loved since my early teen years.

Menolly: totally awesome )

I have no intention of posting every day--I just figure I'll post until I've written about thirty female characters I like, then I'll round it up with links at the end.

So no one is out here, right? You're all watching Lost. I feel so abandoned!

If you watch 30 Rock, you need to read this fanfic: Settlingly Ever After, by [livejournal.com profile] dollsome. Liz Lemon/the more appropriately named Wesley Snipes. It's fantastically funny.

brief blather about 'idfic' )

New topic! If you wrote something for Remix Redux 8, let me know. And maybe give me a hint if it's a fandom you've written before or not, because I'd like to try and guess what you wrote. (Not for a prize or anything. Just because it's fun.) Or make your own post for us to guess, please! Thanks!

Sadly I don't have time right now to read the stories there. I have to finish getting my place ready for guests coming over tomorrow evening for our belated Lost finale viewing party.

I've been thinking about doing some Battlestar Galactica post-finale ficlets for various characters. I've also been thinking that I want one of those cool fic table things. [livejournal.com profile] un_love_you has an example on its profile page... though I don't like some of the prompts there.

If I do this on my own rather than signing up for a table at that comm, then not every fic has to be about a relationship. Plus BSG as a general prompt has already been claimed three times, which is the limit; I'd rather not be character/pair limited for this.

I'd like suggestions for prompts to put into the table; words, phrases or even a short line of dialogue are all fine. Gimme as many as you want--be wordy!

eta: I'm not planning to write fics about people not saying I love you. I just want totally random prompts, which hopefully will result in totally random fics that are set during or after the show finale.

The Farscape pilot episode has some of my favorite set-ups for fiction. Enemies forced to bond, lost person forced to deal quickly with unfamiliar setting, the outsider. Yeah, I love the outsider in stories (in case that wasn't glaringly obvious to anyone who reads this LJ on a regular basis). Spaceships and fights, too, yay!

Oh, episodes for season one are available through iTunes, since they're out of print on DVD. I have the next episode already downloaded.

Other thoughts: Aeryn Sun is awesome. And pretty. But really, totally awesome. Ben Browder is a fantastic spokesperson for the plain white tee-shirt. The evil enemy dude is... kinda hasty to blame Crichton for the death of his brother, but I've handwaved much bigger things than that.

So, verdict is: no livejournal tag for Farscape yet, but there may be soon.
eta: tag added 5/26/08

Also, anyone know of a good place to find X-Men movieverse fic?

And lastly: why did the third X-Men movie have to be so blah in comparison to the first two?
