Hey, livejournal, why did you lose my last two posts? This is not good, LJ. I wonder if they'll come back?

Still watching Jericho. It's regularly okay and intermittently awesome. I watched episodes 1X12 and 1X13 yesterday--I had planned to watch just one, but I wanted to know what happened next. Both episodes fit into the intermittently awesome category, obviously. ;-D

I'm not sure why livejournal's "secure" payment site is so iffy. But it was working today, so I renewed my account and my extra userpics. HI CARTER'S FACE, I MISSED YOU! Now to find more examples of your face and upload them!

rose_griffes: John Reese from Person of Interest on CBS (reese (the *other* messed-up Reese))
Sunday, April 29th, 2012 08:30 pm
Had a (brief) discussion on another LJ about my religion and politics, so I'll link to this recent article: A Female Episcopal Priest Visits a Mormon Temple. I thought it was an interesting (although brief) perspective on my religion from an outside perspective.

fic for Person of Interest: I'm still planning Carter/Reese post-season one plotty fic. I've managed to come up with some workable ideas about, uh, stuff (plot-related stuff! motivation and character stuff!), so now I'm worried that the finale is going to throw all of my plans into chaos with some sort of difficult-to-work-around cliffhanger.

I never posted a link on LJ (though I did on Tumblr) for a Zoe Morgan/John Reese fic that wasn't written by me (I know!): A kiss can be even deadlier, if you mean it. PG, no real spoilers. It's funny and there's the tango.

fic for Battlestar Galactica: I'll post the author reveals tomorrow afternoon for the BSG remix. In the meantime, in addition to the remix written for me, y'all should read Family Matters (The Things Inside Remix). It's a remix of Nicole's Give You All. (My summary for Nicole's story: it's like Joss Whedon decided to write Kara/Lee fanfic. Everything you wanted in the worst possible way.) The remix still has the same dark premise--Lee has been taken captive on New Caprica by a Six--but now we see not only the Six's POV, but also Dee's. And it's fascinating and heartbreaking and a wee bit hopeful at the end. It's also long--about 30,000 words--but totally worth it.

livejournal stuff: Ugh, apparently they're redoing the scrapbook feature. And reducing how much memory we get, which isn't really an issue at this point (I'm waaaaaaaaaay below their old and new limits), but uploading pictures is currently not so easy. How am I supposed to have more pictures of pulchritudinous Jim Caviezel in my LJ if I'm having trouble uploading more than one picture at a time?

Hi new people! *waves* I hate to break it to you, but sometimes I talk about things other than Person of Interest. I KNOW, hard to believe if you've only looked at recent-ish entries. New fandom obsession will eventually fade. At that point I'll probably go back to posting two or three times a week, with my usual topics of books, time travelers, and attractive humanoid robots that have feeeeeeelings. The emotional robots bit is probably why I like John Reese so much, to be honest.

(Any day is LJ defriending amnesty day; I don't have it set up to receive notification if someone takes me off their reading list. I also don't have the 'my guests' feature activated, so if you've been lurking without commenting, you can continue to be anonymous.)

Today in church we sang "All Creatures of Our God and King" and I was v. pleased because the arrangement has an awesome alto part. Actually, it's quite a nice arrangement for all the voices. And that reminded me that I've been meaning to do a piano update. *sigh*

Five years and two months ago I discovered fanfiction. Five years and two weeks ago I woke up with an idea for a story that wouldn't go away until I finished writing it. Then five years ago today I made my own livejournal account so I'd have a way of posting that story somewhere online when I finished it (about two weeks after that).

In other words: happy LJ-versary to me! To celebrate, I'm reviving an old meme:

Comment here with three* of the following options, and I'll respond with the answers of...

a.) Why I have you as a flister
b.) The icon I associate with you
c.) The thing we don't share in fandom that I find fascinating
d.) Why you are so incredibly awesome
e.) The first conversation I remember having with you, if I can remember it
f.) My favorite story of yours, or the thing I love most about your fandom writing/fanfics
g.) One thing about you, non-fandom related, that I want to know more about
h.) a link (or pic or something) I think you'll like

*or whatever number of options you want

Belatedly I'm declaring a livejournal HOLIDAY! Due to work and summer plans, I'm going to do an LJ-lite experience for the next... sometime. I'll be around some--I may even write a post now and then--but I'm not going to worry about reading everything. I'll do a post to ask for links to stuff I missed when my LJ holiday is over.

Come on, dinner, be done already! I'm hungry!

Things I am currently writing:
Battlestar Galactica/Doctor Who crossover with Dee and Martha
another Martha in 1913 fic
Racetrack the lycan
Would anyone actually read a Mark POV story? That would be Mark the (cylon) Two on Earth with Laine, the OFC I had in 'Settlement' and 'Generations Untold'. I have ideas. They're all somewhat sweet and simultaneously creepy, which I obviously find interesting, but I'm weird that way.

Something I want:
Hey, people who make better userpics than me! (This could be almost anyone on my livejournal reading list.) I want a userpic with Ellison (The Sarah Connor Chronicles) near the end of the season one finale, with the text "saw the hand of God" or something like that. That moment right after Cromartie walks away and he just stands there... Yeah, that would be cool. *bats eyelashes*

DONE, thanks [livejournal.com profile] emmiere!

Fic of DOOOM: over 7500 words now.

I'm procrastinating doing things I don't want to do. Good thing I had the foresight Sunday night to ask for the icon meme as a delaying tactic for now.

1. Reply to this post with 'Icons!', and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.
the icons wot Silja gave me )

OH! Speaking of userpics! We need some for [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix. So if any of you who make icons feel like giving it a shot... I'm not sure what to ask for, though. Something with 'remix' written on it?

Cheer, cheer, the weekend is here!
This was a long week.

I am going to start a livejournal community! [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant and I have proclaimed ourselves worthy to be mods! We're going to do a Battlestar Galactica fic remix challenge, with assigned remixers/remixees and all of that stuff.

*throws around more exclamation marks just for the heck of it*
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if you have any advice on starting/running a comm, feel free to comment or send a private message.

It finally happened to me! I was looking at my LJ userpics and the one I have labeled 'kara-lee' is now randomly a picture of a woman leaning on a table, clutching a mug. I'll use it for this post... though I'm guessing most of you will just see Kara and Lee.

I don't know why this amuses me so much. Maybe because I've seen so many people complain about this problem, and I felt left out. *g*

I've been rewatching The 10th Kingdom today. I love that silly mini-series. One of the Yuletide fics I bookmarked is for that fandom. Anyone got any other good fics for it?

Um... so. Any advice on writing stuff when you get stuck? I have the following things lingering on my harddrive:
Mathias on the algae planet fic--it's over 1000 words but there's not really anything happening
Leoben (multiple) crossover fic(lets)
something for someone that I won't specify in case I actually get it done as a present
the poor abandoned crackbaby that [livejournal.com profile] pataka02 and I are theoretically writing together
a crackpoetry version of 'To His Coy Mistress'
a fic with D'Anna's pov during/after the season 4.0 finale
more stuff that I'm embarrassed to describe
the Racetrack is a werewolf fic that I'M NOT WRITING, so it's not actually on my harddrive but the idea won't go away

am NOT writing Racetrack is a werewolf fic. NOPE.

Look! I have a penguin in my LJ! What a fun present! Thank you, secret santa!

Dang, I'm posty this week.

1) The Life season two premiere is up early at http://www.hulu.com/life. 'Find Your Happy Place.' I think it's only there for today. I'm assuming it'll be back again after the show actually airs. Apparently it's there all week. My own assessment of the episode? Mixed. Hm. We'll see how it plays out with the new cast member and Dani's new hair. (Hey, I liked her serious cop hair. Seeing it loose is just disconcerting.)

2) Amazon.com is having a 50% sale on some boxed DVD sets.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&plgroup=4&docId=1000276231&plpage=1
Hee, they have the old WonderWoman show! With Lynda Carter! Man, I loved that show when I was little. (I'm not buying it, but I feel very nostalgic now.)
Oooh, Red Dwarf too!

3) Yes, I have successfully installed a moodtheme. Actually I installed two, but I'm not sure how you're supposed to get both to work at the same time. So the one currently active is the 'Amélie' moodtheme, which is just gorgeous.

Theoretically I'm doing work stuff. I just had to pause and offer this helpful tidbit for livejournal politeness. If the page for an individual journal entry is the same as your journal style, it might be hard to read. You can change that easily - go here, scroll down and click yes for the box marked "disable custom comment pages." (You do have to be logged in for this to work. And if you find this confusing, click on the link button for this entry. See the white background, totally unlike my own usual greenish journal front page? That's what I mean--that's what you'll get by disabling the custom comment page.)

*whine* I'm farsighted! I already have to wear reading glasses when I spend time online! I like the nice white background with black letters

Here, have some other stuff on using LJ:
Signs you might not be from LJ originally
How to LJ has links to lots of html explanations and other LJ stuff

If the eyestrain of someone's weird journal layout gets to be too much, you can always add ?style=mine or ?format=light to the end of a url to make it more readable. (For the style-mine thing to work, you have to be logged in to LJ.)

Okay, I think I'm done being "helpful" for this evening. Off to save the rest of the world!

Almost forgot, it's been one year since I started my LJ account. So here's some stuff about writing fanfic, since that's a big part of why I have an LJ.

After less than a month of reading fanfic I woke up one morning in early December 2006 with an idea of my own. Before then I'd thought that writing something would be fun, but no thanks. This idea wouldn't leave me alone, though. So I started writing. The result was Prophecy, set in the future (fleet's on Earth now), Kara/Leoben.

I'm having icon issues. Right now I have space for one more... and should I do a "Made in Oklahoma" icon with Kristin Chenoweth and/or Lee Pace (both actors on Pushing Daisies) and/or Christian Kane? Or should I have an icon with Sarah Shahi, who plays Dani Reece on Life? Or should I delete an icon I already have and put in both? *sobs* but I love my icons! woe is me

It's been almost a year since I started my own livejournal! It's been a bit longer than a year since I first discovered fanfiction. These two things are inextricably connected. So here's a bit about the second thing (discovering fanfiction), with some fic recs and stuff about me me me.

It's spring: flowers in bloom, thunderstorms, the ensnaring vines and thorns of crazy parents at work. *sigh* very short rant about work )
Luckily there's chocolate in massive quantities. And youtube. Looky! Y'all, this is so fabulous that I have to try embedding it here, just so I can watch it over and over again.

Um, don't watch if you don't want to think of the Muppets every time you hear 'Clocks' by Coldplay )

I finally became a paying LJ member. It's hard to say what motivated me more, getting some more icons or getting rid of those ads. Anyway, now I need more icons. Like an icon of Kara and Leoben kissing paintily on the floor, with the text "Another fine mess," because Kara/Leoben can only be improved by adding in quotes from Laurel and Hardy. Sadly, I have no icon skills. *points to today's icon as an example* I have no idea how icon-makers get those small white texts to show up clearly. It took me forever to get that very large green text to show up well enough to read.

*Dove, because it's cheapest and their dark chocolate really isn't bad at all.

So yesterday afternoon I traveled to the Fortress of Feminine Solitude to have a girls' night in. I was doing my best to be a pusher of two of my addictions (LJ and BSG). First I showed M my LJ site and some of the cool stuff you can do. (I doubt this particular addiction is going to happen, at least not until high-speed internet is available at the FoFS--and why isn't it available already? The FoFS is located in a well-populated suburb, so why no DSL?!?) Then we watched "33" for the purposes of research--heehee! (I am actually trying to write a Helo-centric fic right now.) I got M to say "mmmm, Helo" with me when he appeared onscreen.* C came home early in the ep, so she watched it too, with sarcastic comments about what they messed up from the original series. Then I showed M and C part of "Flesh and Bone," so I could explain about the creepy/hot! guy they need to be watching. They agreed that he was creepy/hot! but said they didn't need to borrow my season one DVDs; I should be satisified that I got them hooked on "Lost." (They've now seen all of season one and part of season two.)

M and I went to Pei-Wei for take-out. Yum, why haven't I eaten there before? We came back, P showed up and we watched "Superman Returns." Four women plus Diego the wonder-dog (who no longer qualifies as male, so he doesn't jinx the FoFS... and yeah, I know it's not really solitude with four women, but it's such a cool nickname, and extra-appropriate this time, too).

My shallow, random, mostly non-spoilery thoughts on "Superman Returns."
