Crossover silliness: Battlestar Galactica plus The Muppet Show, Pushing Daisies and The Pretender
warnings for karate-chopping, talking while eating, hypothetical stalking, and bad fashion choices. And guns used on cylons who will just come back and choose the same ugly shirt.

At some point I was going to try and write a Buffy crossover, but it involved Spike and I just didn't have the nerve to write Spike and Leoben in the same story... sorry about this )

Pick five of your favorite shows, in no particular order, before you read the below questions, then answer them!

1. Battlestar Galactica
2. Angel
3. Doctor Who
4. Lost
5. Pushing Daisies

I'll just put the answers back here )

For a summer that wasn't going to include much travel, I sure did travel a lot. June: four days of camping, then two weeks of travel, including Niagara Falls, Quebec City and Pennsylvania. July: a week-long teaching conference (within my state, but at a touristy destination), visits with the family and an old high school friend... I haven't been home much (er, where I live now, I mean). Now that August is here, I'm busy planning school stuff. I have a two-day presentation to prepare for, a brief break, then back to the grind of teacher inservices (taught by other people) before students finally come back.

Where did my time go? Oh yeah, to traveling. Heh. No wonder I haven't added much to my 2009 book list.

Anyway, here's an update on fannish things (aka movies/TV and writing/reading related to it) (spoilers for the trailer for BSG's 'The Plan'):
not a lot to say... )

This would appear to be a TV post. It jumps all over the place, though.

ABC may not air the final episodes of Pushing Daisies?!?!
::mentally throws rotten fruit at ABC::

So I was watching more of Flight of the Conchords the other night. spoilers for episodes 1.07 and 1.08 )

BSG stuff: I was commenting in [livejournal.com profile] prolix_allie's LJ about Leoben. Here's some of that (slightly modified to make sense)--and I'd love to read anyone else's thoughts about it. Twos, free will, individuality... )

Hopefully some of that made sense. I don't think that made any sense. Too bad! I was cutting/pasting/typing as fast as my little fingers could work. And now: back to grading papers. I'm desperately behind.

Can't sleep. Have just now deduced that it was the decongestant I took. Blergh. At least today is Sunday and not Monday yet.

Someone on my reading list asked for favorite fanvids, any fandom, self-reccing allowed. For that last part I say: ahahahahahaha! Anyway. I've mentioned before that vids are just not my medium and that watching one all the way through is a major accomplishment. Also, I'm ridiculously picky about the music. Now that I'm done with the disclaimers, here are some vids I liked enough to download this year. )

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] prolix_allie, have you seen this Cally fic? It's about her in the brig after shooting Boomer.

I just watched the most recent episodes of Pushing Daisies and Life
*flails*

Oh, shows!

You know the drill. There is no analysis or substance behind these cuts. Just me randomly reacting.
Life 2.11 and 2.12 )

Pushing Daisies 2.10 )

Hm. I should try and track down that Muppet Christmas special that was on last night.

Not currently watching the BSG mini-sodes or webisodes or whatever you want to call them. I didn't watch the previous set (for 3.0) until I had to for fic-writing purposes. I'm just... thoroughly disinterested. Considering that they were written and recorded after season 4.5 was already finished, I'm not worried about missing out on vital information. Though reading everyone else's reaction is highly amusing.

I think I shall do bullet points today. Or the equivalent of them, since I don't know how to make them on LJ.

- I've Loved You So Long is a good movie. Bring a tissue. I particularly liked the relationships in the sister's family--lots of love, affection and respect.

- Pushing Daisies has apparently been cancelled. That's sad but not unexpected. Possibly I brought this on by buying season one on DVD? *g*

- Did you know that Harlequin romances are still around? Huh. While mulling over the idea of a post about the draw of the powerful man/ordinary woman convention in romance media (because I clearly don't have enough things to do with my spare time?!), I decided to check the book section at Wal-Mart and there they were! The titles are just as cheesy as I remember from my teenage years when I would sneak them into my room from the library because my mother would've been appalled.
Title examples: The Sheikh's Rebellious Mistress. Bought: One Night, One Marriage. The Billionaire in Penthouse B. Aw, way back when it used to be just millionaires. Cost of inflation, I guess.

- Firefly fic rec. She'll Fly True by [livejournal.com profile] ubiquirk. Zoe and River, post-movie. Go read this, it's fabulous!

- There's a new ten-second promo for season 4.5 of Battlestar Galactica.
slightly spoilery personal reaction )

- Time for lunch! Food, whee! And then maybe some Thanksgiving/Christmas shopping.

I have Pushing Daisies season one on DVD now! *dances around*

Mostly unrelated: if you have any crazy ideas of Leoben in a crossover fic that you want to donate, go right ahead. Possibly I'm writing five crossover drabbles. Maybe. (So far my brain has Leoben being bitten, shot, karate-chopped... and eating pie. This may never see the light of day, but it's provided a lot of giggling in the 'thinking but not actually writing yet' phase.)

And one last bit of TV stuff--apparently Sanctuary has been renewed for a second season. Has anyone watched past the first three episodes?

Have some links. Just because.

WATCH PUSHING DAISIES! I would just say ditto. Also, I'm ordering season one on DVD right now.

Interesting essay about the history of female characters in fiction and how that may impact who our favorite characters are.

An amusing rant about the overuse of the 'Mary Sue' label.

Stuff about The Mentalist: see Simon Baker be smug, tortured and sexy!
picspam from the pilot episode
picspam from episodes 1-3

BSG: Kara/Sam picspam! *sigh* They're so pretty.

30 Rock: I have nothing even resembling a favorite pair on this show--it's just sheer fun. And I haven't been purposely looking for fic about the show, but some of those Liz/Jack fics by [livejournal.com profile] jennyo are absolutely hysterical. There's a list here--I like the first five the best. (Number five is Tracy Jordan's POV... *snickers*)

Catching up on TV this weekend. (On the agenda: complete slothfulness. As far as plans go, I think it's a good one.) Expect more posts tomorrow.

Pushing Daisies is a fascinating show. It's incredibly well-written and has its own complex universe.
slightly spoilery (but brief) appreciation for season two so far )

I don't know how long they can sustain this level of fun. The show must be very expensive to make--such a specific look requires lots of sets and props. So I'll just enjoy it as long as I can... As with the show Chuck, I'm thoroughly entertained by the spectacle and I like all of the characters. (Because the look is such a big part of the show, I can't grade papers while watching. Heh.) But I don't find myself thinking about that universe other than waiting for the next episode to arrive.

1) Pushing Daisies was awesome this week. If you've never watched before, give it a shot! Free on abc.com (or whatever their site is--did I mention free?!).

2) I've now watched disc one of season one of Flight of the Conchords. Okay, I'll confess--I thought y'all were exaggerating about the show. But you weren't! It's fabulous!
