rose_griffes: Wonder-Woman carries Batman (wonderwoman-batman)

1. How did I manage to get two episodes behind on Parks and Recreation? And no time to watch either of them before tomorrow. (In part because I'll be watching Person of Interest tonight.)

2. I've seen the movie Life of Pi twice in movie theaters in the last two weeks. It's gorgeous, both for its visuals and the narrative. Bravo to whatever person out there chose Suraj Sharma for the lead, because he did a beautiful job. (The movie is already on DVD, but it's also playing at the last-run theater a couple of suburbs away.)

3. I may try reading the book someday, but I want to wait a while. The story via movie was so complete and thought-provoking that I don't want to replace that vision with the author's... not just yet.

4. Currently in the top spot for most delicious sandwich: hummus and avocado. Messy but delicious.

5. My current plan while dealing with depression: "There is one goal, and only one goal, and that goal is to get out of bed on time." It's actually been very helpful. Maybe more on that front later, but I wanted to mention it before forgetting to post anything. My livejournal feels neglected lately.

I didn't realize it was Galentine's Day until just now! Possibly because I haven't been on Tumblr since Sunday. Anyway... happy Galentine's Day!

Still accepting fic prompts that include a female character.

Now waiting for that other lovely holiday, February 15, the great fifty percent off dark chocolate day. (Last year the nearest store only marked down to thirty percent, which JUST ISN'T RIGHT.)

Non-spoilery reactions to current seasons of TV shows:

Parks and Recreation continues to be delightful. It's... well, rather perfect, and if started talking about how much I love one character, I'd feel obliged to write something about everyone.

If anyone who reads this has considering watching, 1) it's on Netflix livestream and 2) do NOT watch season one. Jump somewhere to the middle of season two. Oh, and "Galentine's Day" is a must-watch episode.

I managed to get horribly behind on Fringe--enough that I wasn't able to watch episode two for free. Episode one wasn't a good start, but three and four (so far, because I'm in the middle of it right now) have been much better. I've concluded that I'm watching the "Anna Torv and Peter Jackson have the most expressive faces" show. Good thing I'm not watching for any level of plausibility, because HAH.

Person of Interest has been really good this season; it's the one show I diligently watch every week. If you can train your brain to ignore some of the plot holes, it can even go up to great rather than good. Heh.

I tend to fall a few days behind on episodes of Elementary, mainly because with my job I have to wake up soooooo very early. But it's available the next day on the CBS website, and I'm really enjoying the Watson and Holmes show. Specifically in that order. Oh, and ditto what I said about PoI and plot holes.

Still watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on youtube. Two new episodes a week.

That's about it. I haven't taken the time yet to try Once Upon a Time again. Maybe soon-ish. Arrow also intrigues me. For, um, the plot. (Thanks a lot, Tumblr, for making me want to watch new things.)

BSG remix reveals have been posted. I wrote The Hour Is Getting Late, a tiny fic with Tory's POV during the season three finale. Tory/Sam, PG-13.

While I think the end result is fine, I sort of wish I could ask for a do-over. It was incredibly frustrating trying to write Battlestar Galactica fanfic when my brain was wanting to focus on new show. Apparently I'm a serial fandom monogamist, and BSG is no longer in dominant position. It was only a matter of time; other than one exception, every story I've written for other fandoms was done after the BSG finale in 2009.

That made me start thinking about what factors lead to me writing fic )

*laughs* Apparently number three proves I'm just stubborn and perverse. This isn't news to me.
rose_griffes: Person of Interest on CBS (person of interest)
Monday, April 23rd, 2012 04:00 pm
Person of Interest fic: I posted Finch-Carter-Reese genfic yesterday: Three Sides, written for Liz for the We Get Carter mini-gift exchange.

Also, I added some more fic to my Person of Interest bookmarks. Some of them are only on AO3 and ff.net, so they might be new to you. I've been keeping up with character tags as well as fandom and rating. (Go me.) And wow, delicious.com has been like a desert lately. That "update" last summer lost them a lot of fandom-related users.

Battlestar Galactica fic: Someone remixed my very first story! Words is a remix of Prophecy with some post-finale Settlement-verse details instead of a modern world. I mentioned in my comment that it's like my brain blew up and threw all of the things I'm fascinated by into one story.

There are still stories being posted at BSG remix, by the way. We're almost done, so it's time to start the guessing games of who wrote what.

Hm, I wonder if there are any BSG fics in the multi-fandom remix this year? That went live either yesterday or today, I'm not sure which.

still TV-related, but not fanfic: short reactions to Missing, Fringe, Parks and Recreation--not spoilery, but I'll put it back here anyway )

Finally, Tumblr! *shakes fist* It is the worst place ever when it comes to spoilers. I'm now just tracking Person of Interest, Missing and Martha Jones. And Jean Barolay, because angry red-heads with guns are awesome. (I may have learned something about Doctor Who and the plan for next season. I'm not certain. Oh, and I know Fringe spoilers for the episode I haven't watched yet.)

I watched the pilot episode for Missing online. not very spoilery, but cutting anyway )

I'm on board so far. Hopefully this show isn't done by Warner, the company that has made it so difficult to get episodes of Person of Interest. (Difficult enough that I may have to wait and watch season two of PofI on DVD months later, since Big Brother will officially be watching our internet usage starting this summer.) I still can't believe that Warner won't even offer episodes for legal sale online the next day.

Moving on. It's fic rec time! Doctor Who, Parks and Recreation, Fringe, Person of Interest )

Pulled weeds for a while. Scrubbed wallpaper glue and smoothing plaster from approximately 8 square feet of wall. Decided to work on kiss and not make up fic, which is suddenly evolving into "Let me explore all the motivations and questions and plot-holes that the show never addresses" fic. Why you gotta do this to me, brain?!

Hey look, Leslie Knope made it to the final round of Fandom March Madness. Huh, I'm amazed. Not quite as torn over the Leslie versus Donna Noble vote as I was Leslie versus Hermione. I love Donna, but Leslie is the reason I watch Parks and Recreation. (It's an ensemble show, but without Leslie, I wouldn't keep watching. Can't say the same of Doctor Who.)

Hey, I know some of you out there are Parks and Recreation fans. You should go read stillscape's Galentine's Day fics, they are amazing. Plenty of Leslie/Ben fic, but there's also April being sneakily nice to people, Donna Meagle as the designated driver, badly photoshopped pictures of Ben with different hairstyles...

Since bsg_epics was asking about fandom pairs we like and why, here, have a post I started a few weeks ago and then forgot about. Probably because I was writing Zoe Morgan/John Reese fic again. (Heh.)

spoilers for Parks and Recreation 4.14 )

The other TV show I have left: spoilers for Fringe 4.11 )

Wow, it feels weird to have only three shows to blather about. Fringe, Parks and Recreation and Person of Interest.

Oooh, speaking of that... any of you other Person of Interest watchers got any gen fic prompts to share about Detective Carter? I want to try and write some genfic with her before halfamoon is over.

I've been talking to lls_mutant about it. BSG remix will be coming back soon! Watch the comm for sign-ups soon. You'll have at least six weeks to write your remix, and the minimum story length is five hundred words, so this is nicely low-key way to try a remix if you haven't done so before.

Quick reaction post for TV/movies. (Really quick. I'm grading papers.)

Iron Man 2 )

Fringe 4.09 )

Parks and Recreation 4.12 )

Once Upon a Time 1.10 )

End of the super-fast post. Expect a recruitment post about Person of Interest tomorrow! I have actual numbered points on why you should watch. It's so unlike me!

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) a few thoughts )

The summary for those who are curious: Jim Caviezel does in fact have other voice pitches than "whispery" and "monotone." (Thank goodness he finally turned it up a notch on Person of Interest. It was beginning to make me giggle.)

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) wins the prize for ludicrous but watchable )

Once Upon a Time episodes 1.08 and 1.09 am I the only one who doesn't really like Rumpelstiltskin? )

Parks and Recreation 4.11 this isn't the episode to watch as an introduction to the show )

Fringe 4.08 not much to put here )

My latest (last? I hope!) version of a Yuletide story is with my beta-reader. I'm fairly confident that y'all aren't going to guess which story I wrote this year. (And the one person who guessed correctly last year already knows, so...)

TV meme? Sure, why not.
Which TV shows did you start watching in 2011?
I'm only listing the (new) shows I watched more than one episode of: The Killing (US), Once Upon a Time, Person of Interest, Revenge, Prime Suspect (US).

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2011?
Revenge wasn't going in a direction that interested me. (Which is to say it was going in too many directions.) The Killing (US)--it lost the edge I was enjoying and I never finished the second half of the (short) season. 30 Rock, although I had mostly abandoned it before 2011 started. At this point it represents a lot of what I hate about TV comedies--which isn't to say it doesn't have funny moments, but UGH, I will never forgive it for that 'joke' in the season four premier.

I've gotten behind on Prime Suspect; knowing that it's canceled has taken away my motivation to catch up. Does that count as letting go? Also, I only watched one episode each of Fairly Legal, Homeland, Terra Nova and Ringer; they didn't interest me enough to track them down to keep watching. I was never a faithful fan of Castle, but I did intend to keep watching; somehow that didn't happen.

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2011? Why?
There really aren't any new shows that I missed and intended to check out. So that leaves older shows; I've been meaning to watch season one of Luther. Also, I need to finish season two of Fringe (and catch up on the rest). Why haven't I? Eh, I'm not sure...

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2012?
I have no idea what's coming up, so I can't answer this question. Wait, there's Doctor Who. Looking forward to that. And I really do plan to watch Luther and Fringe.

Which TV show impressed you least in 2011?
Terra Nova, I guess. Mostly because it felt like it was trying really hard to be a movie, with broad brushstrokes instead of the fine details that TV shows have time to portray. I enjoyed the first episode, but when I couldn't find a legal online source for episode two at the moment I wanted to watch, I didn't care enough to try any other way.

Which TV show impressed you the most in 2011? Why?
Parks & Recreation had an amazing third season. The fourth has been pretty sweet as well. Plus I've turned into a ridiculously rabid Leslie/Ben shipper. (Didn't mean for that to happen. I'm still sort of confused about how I ended up here!) Community was hit or miss, but it had some moments of absolute genius; there really wasn't anything like it.

As for Person of Interest, it manages to hit a lot of the things I find fannishly awesome. Not a great TV show, but hugely entertaining and pretty much perfect for me to poke around in and think about fanfic (that I mostly don't write). I have noticed some cool details that only someone paying close attention could spot; I like shows that reward their viewers in that way.

Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
I don't really do that.

I had a TV-related dream last night. It's been a while since that happened. Apparently my brain thinks a Parks and Recreation/Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover would be great! Er... maybe? )

Anyway. I want this to exist now.

Possibly I dreamed about Parks and Recreation because I watched episode 4.09 last night and spoilers )

Why no new Person of Interest this week?! *grumbles*

Possibly I should get out the Christmas decorations. Or do some writing for Yuletide. Or... lie down and listen to the rain hit the roof until I fall asleep. Hm.

Automatic cross-posting failed. This entry is here on LJ.

title: Can't Seem to Wipe This Smile Off My Face
fandom: Parks and Recreation
summary: Making out at the movies. Because apparently they're fifteen now. Not that he had made out at the movies when he was fifteen.
characters: Leslie Knope, Ben Wyatt (and someone else I refuse to name)
pairings: Leslie/Ben
rating and warnings: PG-13; kissing, mention of sex
spoilers: "Smallest Park" and very vague spoilers for the new Muppet movie
word count: er, over 1000?
note: not beta-read because this was supposed to be a teeny little fic. Also, I don't know anyone who beta-reads fic for P&R. Also also, I don't feel like waiting around. *sticks out tongue* (Feel free to point out any errors.)
Also also also, this is DB's fault even though she doesn't watch the show.

actually, he really hadn't done this before )

Dear brain,

Why do you want to write Leslie/Ben fic? It's not like there's a lack of fic for them, especially after that last episode. There's a lack of fic for nearly everyone else on the show, but not for that pair.

Oh look, now you've gone and made a tag for the show. Apparently reading all the Leslie/Ben fic wasn't enough?!

Sincerely wanting to have my own thoughts back (instead of Leslie and Ben making out at the movies),
me

Public Service Announcement: The pilot episode of Person of Interest will be rebroadcast tonight, as well as episode 1.06 (Zoe Morgan!), so if you've been curious, this is your opportunity to check it out.

Also, after 1 am the CBS website will have the pilot episode online with a producer commentary, plus the comment-free version of the pilot. (I don't know how long they'll be available, but probably at least a week?)

My brief reaction to Community, Parks and Recreation, Revenge and Person of Interest. Oh, and Once Upon a Time. not very spoilery but I'm politely putting my thoughts back here anyway )

Haven't watched Prime Suspect yet--mostly because I've been procrastinating on grading papers. The show works really well for that purpose.

Like Liz, I've been (obsessively) checking the Yuletide fandoms sign-up sheet. All of my requested fandoms now have offers! Just one offer for The Passage, though, and two requests. All of the fandoms I offered to write have requests.

I finished a draft of my epic Sam Anders fic. At this point it's over 9000 words. See? Totally epic--for me, anyway.
